To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANISLAUS W. IYTREK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stuart, in the county of Holt and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loading Devices; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of loading devices disclosed in my United States Patent, No. 1,196,364 of August 29, 1916, the principal object being to so improve upon the construction of the machine as to render it better adapted for loading wagons and spreader-s of different heights.
lVith the foregoing general object in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of the improved loader with the loading platform in lowered position;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the plat form raised and tilted to discharge its load;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the swinging arms and the stop hook which is adjustably mounted thereon; and,
Fig. 5 is a detail horizontal section on the plane of the line 55 of Fig. 4.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a suitable horizontal base to which legs 2 are pivoted at their lower ends, said legs being telescopic or otherwise rendered extensible and contractible. The upper ends of the legs 2 are pivoted to a loading platform 3 from whose front end a pair of chains or the like 4 rise to a winding shaft 5 which may be driven in any preferred manner, a drum 6 and cable 7 being shown for this purpose. It is intended that winding of the chains 4 upon the shaft 5 shall move the platform 3 upwardly and rearwardly from its lowered position and that movement of the front end of said platform shall be arrested at a suitable level, according to the height of the wagon or spreader to be loaded, the front of said platform, however, continuing in its upward movement so that the tilting of the platform will discharge its load. In attaining this result, the means now to be described are employed.
A pair of arms 8 are offset between their lower ends at 9 and are provided with upwardly curved lower ends 10, which ends are fulcrumed at 11 to. metal brackets 12 which extend forwardly from the frame 13 which supports the shaft 5. Springs 1 1 are connected to the ends 10, preferably in an adjustable manner, and exert their tension to swing said arms forwardly to the position of Fig. 1, rearward swinging of said arms being limited by chains or the like 15 adj ustably connected at 16 to the frame 18.
The shanks 17 of two rearwardly facing hooks 18, contact with one side of the arms 8 and are provided at their lower ends with claws 19 clenched around the edges of said arms to form slides whereby the hooks may be adjusted on the arms to raise or lower them as occasion may demand. Although any preferred means could be employed for holding the shanks 17 in adjusted position, bolts 20 preferably pass through the arms 8 and through certain of the openings 21 in said shanks. The bolts 20 may well serve as means for attaching one end of the chains 15 as shown clearly in Fig. 2. Short horizontal bolts or rods 22 are positioned at the rear corners of the platform 3 for reception in the hooks 18 as the platform is moved upwardly and rearwardly. The provision of the parts 22 is preferable, but it will be understood that other features of construction could well be employ-ed in place thereof, should occasion demand.
When the platform 3 is lowered to be loaded, the arms 8 and the hooks carried thereby are moved inwardly to the position shown in Fig. 1, by means of the coil springs 14:. When, however, the platform is moved upwardly and rearwardly by winding of the chains 4; on the shaft 5, the rods 22 abut the arms 8 of the hook shanks 17 and thus move them rearwardly to the limit permitted by the chains 15. Said rods are now received in the hooks 18 and thus limit the upward movement of the rear end of the platform. But since the front end thereof continues to travel vertically, said platform will tilt to discharge into the wagon or spreader. By adjusting the bolts 20, the platform may be made to dump at numerous elevations and thus the machine is applicable for loading spreader-s or wagons of various sizes and heights.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be observed that although the improved loader is of simple and inexpensive construction, it will be highly efficient and durable. Since these advantages are probably obtained best by the specific construction shown and described, this construction constitutes the preferred embodiment of the device, but I wish it understoodthat within the scope of the invention as claimed, various changes may be made in form and proportion and in the minor details of construction.
I claim 1. A loader comprising a platformmounted on swinging extensible and contractible legs, means for moving said platform upwardly and rearwardly, and means operable at various elevations for arresting movement of the rear end of said platform while the front end thereof continues to travel upwardly.
2. A loader comprising a platform mounted on swinging extensible and contractible legs, means for moving said platform upwardly and rearwardly, and rearwardly yieldable means operable at various elevations for arresting movement of the rear end of said platform while the front end thereof continues to travel upwardly.
3. A loader comprising a base, extensible and contractible legs pivoted at one end to said base, a loading platform to which the other ends of said legs are pivoted, a frame rising from the rear end of said base, rearwardly yieldable arms pivoted to said frame, means for limiting the rearward movement of said arms, hook shanks connected adjustably with said arms, hooks on the upper ends of said shanks, means on the rear end of the platform for reception in said hooks, and means connected to said platform for moving. the same upwardly and rearwardly.

A loader comprising a base, extensible and-contractible legs pivoted at one end to said base, a loading platform to which the other ends of said'legs are pivoted, a frame rising from the rear end of said base, a pair of vertically disposed arms having. forwardly curved lower ends fulcrumed to said frame, springs connected to- Said ends for normally moving the arms forwardly, hook shanks adjustably secured to said arms and having hooks at their upper ends, means at the rear end of theplatform for reception in said hooks, means for limiting the rearward swinging of said arms, and means connected to the platform for moving the same upwardly and rearwardly.
