Be it known that I, FRANK J. LAIBLE, a citizen of the United States of America,
and resident of Augusta, in the county of Bracken and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vehicle-Curtain Fasteners, of which the followingis a' specification.
An object of my invention is to produce an improved vehicle curtain fastener which is neat, which will permit the fastening of the curtain to be accomplished quickly, and which may be opened'manually readily so as to prevent tearing strains in the curtain when being detachedfrom the relatively stationary member of the vehicle.
This and other objects are attained in the vehicle curtain fastener described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: 1

My improved fastener consists of stud and socket members 4 and- 5 respectively, stud member l being secured to a relatively stationary member 6 of the vehicle and socket 5 being secured to the curtain.
Socket 5 consists of an eyelet of ordinary construction secured in the curtain in position to engage stud 4. Studl'c consists of a casing 7 having a flange 8 extending outwardly from oneedge thereof and a somewhat smaller flange 9 extending inwardly from the opposite edge thereof. Reci rocally mounted within casing '7 is a push utton 10 having its end domed shaped to present a surface for engagement with ones fingers, and having branches 11 and 12 extending toward the base of the casing to guide it within the casing as well as to house a spring 13 located within the push Specification of Letters Patent.

button and bearing against it at one end and against a plate14 at its opposite end; Plate 1 1 is secured to flange 8 of easing 7 in any suitable manner such as by means of the turned over edge 15 and 16 of the plate, the socket being secured to stationary member '6 of the vehicle in any suitable manner such as by screws 17 and 18. Casing 7 is preferably cylindrical in shape and is providedwith lugs 19 and 20 which are cut therefrom and pressed inwardly to inclined positions with relation to its cylindrical sides! These lugs 19 and 20 formguides for spring lugs 21 and 22 which are cut from the branches 11 and 12 of push button 10, so that when it is forced oiiitwardly by spring 13, lugs 19 and 20 will guide lugs'21 a11d22 outwardly to project from tliesides of casing? as shown in Fig. 2 to prevent the displacement of socket 5 therefrom. Lugs 21 and 22 normally tend to return to positions inalinement with branches 11 and 12, so that when push button 10 is pressed inwardly against the tension of spring 13, these lugs Will move within casing 7 and remain in engagement with lugs 19 and 20 of the casing, as shownin Fig. 3. Theends of lugs 21 and 22 are turned overto form shoulders 21 and 22 respectively which aid infpreventing displacement of the socket from the stud.
Inthe operation of attaching a curtain to relatively stationary member 6 of the vehicle, by means of myimproved curtain'fassocket 5 passes these lugs, the action of spring 13 forces push button 10 to its normal position as disclosed in Fig. 2 and causes lugs 21 and 22 to be projected beyond the walls of casing 7 by engagement thereof with lugs 19 and 20 of the casing. In this position any attempt to remove the socket will be prevented by the projecting shouldered ends of lugs 21 and 22.
When it is desired to remove the socket of the rapid attachment and detachment of a vehicle curtain without subjecting a the curtain to stretching or tearing strains, A
further advantage is that it may be manufactured entirely from sheet metal and produced upon punch presses very cheaply.

what I claim is: a a

A vehicle curtaln fastener comprls nga stud adapted to be secured toa relatively stationary member of a vehicle,and a socket adapted to be secured to a curtain, said stud consisting of a casing having an opening in v its side, a push button reciprocally mounted Within the casing and having a lug'attached thereto adapted to engage the opening, and means located Within the stud adapted to a cause said push button to move to a position inwhich the lug normally projects from the opening exteriorly ofthe casing, said push button being adapted for manual reciproca-,
tion to Withdraw the lug from thevopening.

A vehicle curtain fastener comprising a stud adapted to be-secured to arelatively stationary member of-a vehicle, anda socke adapted to. be secured to a curtain andvto engage the stud, said stud consisting of a cas ing having a lug extending from the inner surface thereof and inclined with relation to the surface tov form an opening; in the casing, a push button reciprocally mounted Within the casing, aclug formed-on the push button and adapted to registenvvith the lug of thecasing, and a spring adapted to hold the push button outwardly With relation to the casing, whereby the lugof the push-button will engage the inclined lug. of the casing and be pro ected from, the casing through the opening, said push button being adapted for manual reciprocation against the action a of the sprlng, whereby the. lug of the push button will be retracted. a
