FREIGHT-CAR CONSTRUCTION.
. subect to the Emperor "of Austria, residing at hicago, in the county of Cook and, State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Freight-Gar Construction,-
of which the following is a full, clear,concise, andexact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to freight car construction, and more specifically to the con-v struction of grain cars.
One of the ob ects of my invention -is to provide an improved sealin strip for the mg "and wooden flooring, the lower edge of oint between the siding an flooring of a grain car which will be simple in construction and durable, and will not be caused to lying s leak by the racking or distortion. of the car.
Further objects of my invention will appear from the detailed description to .follow taken in connection with the appended claims.
In the drawing, the fi re shows a perspective view of part 0 a grain car embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the parts of the car shown comprise the steel center sills 10, thesteel side sill 11, the wooden flooring 12 resting on the sills 10 and 11, the post 13 and the steel Z-bar 14: for supporting the wooden siding 15 and the sealing strip 16 for the joint between the siding, and the flooring. This sealing strip 16 may of sheet metal shaped to form a vertical portion 17 secured to the siding 15 in any suitable manner, as by nails 18, a horizontal portion 19 lying between the lower edge of the siding 15 and the flooring 12, a vertical portion 20 extending over the outer edge of the flooring 12 and a horizontal portion 21- ainst the bottom of the flooring 12 and secured thereto in any suitable manner as by nails22.
It will be seen this sealing strip is such that the joint will not be caused to leak even if the lower edge of the siding should draw away from the flooring 12, due to the racking of the car or the warpmg of the siding, as the portions 20 and 21 will still be effective to prevent any leakage of the grain or other material in the can. a

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l 1. A freight car comprising wooden sidmg and wooden flooring, the lower edge of said s1d1 ng being above the outer edge of the floormg, and a sealing strip for the joint between thesiding and flooring comprising a portion lymg against the inside of the siding, a portion lying between the lower edge of the siding and the flooring, a portion extending over the outer edge of the flooring, and a portion lying against the bottom of the flooring.

A freight car comprising wooden sidin and wooden flooring, the lower edge of sand siding being above the outer edge of the flooring, and a sealin strip for the joint between the siding and ooring comprising a portion lying against the inside of the siding, a portion lying between the lower edge of the siding ortion extending over the outer edge of the oormg.

A freight car comprising wooden siding and wooden flooring, the lower edge of said siding being above the outer edge of the flooring, and a sealing strip for the joint between the siding and the .flooring comprising a portion lying between the lower edge of the siding and the flooring, a porv tion extending upwardly from said first and'the flooring, and a portion and secured to said siding, and-a portion extending over the outer edge of the flooring..
