.Berit known that l, HowAiiD-TERH-UN-, -a citizenfof the' United States,- and `a resident of Chambersburg, -in-ihe county ,of Franklin and State: of Pennsylvania, Y'have' invented certain new and useful Improvements vin Drop-Hammers,rofwhich the following is a Vspecilication.
My invention relates to improvementsin drop-hammers and more` particularly to an improved means"'fr securing the frame of the hammer to the anvil, mypresentzi'nvention being an improvement uponv the frame adjusting means shownxinfUnited States- Patent N o. 1,0%,292 issued to me upon N ovember 12, 1912. ln'the above patent l*the frame was secured. to the anvil by'adjiist ing boltsprovided with'hookedY heads, the anvil adjacent said heads being provided with an undercut recess for the reception of the correspondingly formed part of the bolt head, which tightly fits said recess and which also tightly lits a recess or pocket in the frame. Experience has shown that this arrangement is not satisfactory as the .j ar incident to the operation of the hammer presently crystallizes the bolt which breaks l through the head.
The purpose of the present invention is toV furnish a means for securing the frame and Y anvil which will prove durable against the strains tov which it is subjected. A further. purpose of my invention is to balance the strains upon the bolt securing a drop-hammer frame to its anvil and to reinforce the bolt by a balanced reinforcement. Y A further purpose of my invention is to support a reinforced bolt adaptedV to balance the strains in drop hammer frame and anvil retention by a projection to maintain the bolt in position.
In the `accompanying, drawings forming part ofthis specification and in which Vsimilar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views Figure 1, is a side elevation of a board Fig. 4, a front elevation, partly in section,

be observed that they have long T heads 4:
vheavily reinforced at`5fwhereltheyjoin the .body-of the bolt. The overhanging head of the bolt is supported on the underside by the lip 6 extending down from it and resting upon the top of thev anvil as shown best in Fig. 4.
The body of the bolt has a bearing in the frame 2 and its end is threaded and preferably furnished with a keeper similar to that shown in my former patent, that is to say aV nut 16 having a notched collar 17 which is r80 engaged by a spring depressed tooth 19 ca'rried by frame 2.
By body boundY bolt bridging the gap in an anvil and taking the strains to'wliich itis subjected in tension.
these means I` obtain the veffect of` a' The bolt can readily beremoved or re# placed without lifting the frame from the' anvil, and there are no projecting ears orv lugs on either frame or anvil to breakoli" during the working ofthe hammer, all
strain being taken bythe anvil at the front of the frame seat by the guide of the frame in the anvil, andl by the heavily reinforced tension bolt.V j
The frame 2 is held against vertical movement on the anvil by the bolts .10 as in my former yinvention above referred to.
Having thus described my invention I,
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Ina drop hammer, the combination of a hammer, an anvil laterally grooved and recessed towardy the front and back from the groove, a frame toiigued to fit the groove and having an opening extending longitu' dinally of the tongue, a bolt adapted to lie in said opening and having a T-shaped head adapted to engage the anvil upon opposite lo a reinforced T-head adapted toengage Vthe anvil on opposite sides and a nut for the bolt adapted to engage the frame.
3.1m a drop hammer, the combination of a hammer, a frame and anvil movable relatively to one another, the frame having a tongue extending into a groove in the anvil, a T-headed bolt having the head of the T thickened transversely, a tapered extension of said transverse thickening extending to- Ward the threaded portion of the bolt from the head, the head adapted to engage the anvil on opposite sides of the tongue and a nut for the other end of the bolt adapted to engage the tongue.
4. In a drop hammer, the combination of a hammer, a frame and anvil movable relatively to one another, a tongue upon the frame adapted to move in a groove 1n the anvil, a T-headed bolt engaging the anvil on opposite sides of the tongue and having the Y a hammer, an anvil and a frame, said anvil being planed out for the reception of tongues upon said frame, said anvil and frame being movable relatively to one another and means for adjusting said parts consisting of bolts passing through said tongues having heavily reinforced T-heads engaging the anvil and lips under said heads also engaging the anvil and supporting them and nuts upon the outer ends of said bolts bearing against said frame.
