CRATE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Camden, in the county of Camden, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial'Teeth and Methods of Manufacture, of which the following is a specification.
artificial teeth, the object of the invention being to provide an improved anchorage for the tooth which is accomplished by so con structing the tooth as to provideat the back thereof a plurality of anchoring means independent of each other, and at least one of said archoring means constituting a hole or recess located at the back of the tooth and having its wall at an angle to the other anchoring means and at an acute angle to the back face of the tooth, whereby when the material to which the tooth is attached, is forced into the hole or recess, a secure anchorage is effected.
A further object is to provide an artificial tooth having anchoring means at its middle strongest portion and so arranged as to insure a proper attachment of the tooth to its support without disfiguring the tooth or materially weakening the same.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

While I have described one method of forming holes or recesses 4 in. a tooth, I would have it understood that these holes or recesses may be made in other ways, and I do not limit myself in this particular.
In Fig. 8 I vshow a tooth provided at the center of its back with an anchoring pin 7 a and with four anchoring holes or recesses 4 all located within the strongest portion of the tooth, indicated by the line 11.
In Fig. 4, I omit the pin 7 .and provide a hole or recess 6.
Fig. 5 shows a tooth having recessed edges 13, and a tooth such as here shown may be molded, and anchoring means provided therein such as contemplated by my invention after the tooth is completely formed.
Fig. 6 shows a tooth having a plurality of holes or recesses of various shapes having their walls at an angle to each other and at an acute angle to the back face of the tooth. The different holes or recesses at an angle to the other anchoring means, and at an acute angle to the back face ofthe tooth, so that the material of the support will project into the hole ,or recess and form an effectual anchorage, preventing any possibility of accidental removal.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departingfrom my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit 7 and scope of the appended claims Having fully described my invention,.
