Be it known that I, HENRY OBRIEN, a citizen ,7 of the United States, residing at Forsyth, in the county of Rosebud and State of Montana, haveinvented'a new and useful .Truss, -ofwhich the following is a specification.- I U i The device formingthe subject matter of this application isja truss,and;one object of the invention is .to provide a device of this kind which can be adjusted readily to accommodate body dimensions and to permit the pad portion of the truss to cooperate properly with the rupture.

It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of'that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of What is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a truss constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away;

In the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes a belt which may be made of any desired material. Preferably, however, the belt is in the form of an elastic rubber strip. Reinforcing webs 2, made of canvas or the like, are folded on the ends of the belt 1 and extend longitudinally of the belt. The webs 2 ordinarily are cemented to the belt 1. One of the webs 2 carries eyes 3 held in place by rivets 3 or otherwise, the rivets 3 passing through both layers of the said 'web 2 and through one end of the belt 1.

Preferably there is a single pair of the hooks 10 on the web 8 of'the perineal strap 6, whereas the eyes 11 on the web 12 of the belt 1 are duplicated both longitudinally of the belt and transversely thereof. It will be observed that, owing to this construction, the upper forward end of the perineal strap 6 may be adjusted both longitudinally of the'belt, and transversely of the belt, when the hooks 10 are engaged with theeyes 11.

A strip 15 which may be made of resilient rubber, or any other desired material, is disposed transversely of the head 7 of the perineal strap 6. The ends 16 of the strip 15 are folded across the upwardly diverging edges 22 of the head 7, so as to form a downwardly tapered pocket 18. The ends 16 of the strip 15 are overlapped on the head 7 and are secured thereto by cementing or otherwise. The meeting edges of the ends 16 are desig: nated by the reference numeral 17 In the strip 15 at the sides thereof, slits 19 are pocket 18, and because the pocket is of downwardly tapered form, the pad will not work out through the lower end of the pocket. The slits 19 open, as indicated in the drawings, to permit a transverse expansion of the strip 15', under theaction ofthe pad 20. The pad 20 may be made of any desired material. A resilient, hollow rubber ball will be found useful, but this detail is not insisted upon.

In practical operation, the ends of the belt 1 are connected, adjacent the side of the body of the wearer, by means of the hooks 4 and the eyes 3. The perineal-strap '6 extends downwardly along the hip of the wearer and the upper forward end of the perineal strap is connected with the belt by means of the hooks 10 and the eyes 11, as hereinbefore described, the pad 20 being held in thisway, in proper position on the rupture. Those skilled in the making of trusses will understand that the perineal strap 6 may be located so as to retain either a right hand 'rup-;

ture or a left hand rupture, and if there is a double rupture, then two of the perineal straps 6 will be provided. These details lie well within the skill of a mechanic having the present disclosure before him, and a spe 'cific delineation thereof is considered unnecessary.

Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is g 7 1. A truss comprlslng a belt; a reinforcthrough the upper end thereof,

carried by the web of the belt being and secured thereto; a perineal strap having one of its ends attached to the belt; a reinforcing web folded over the other end of the perineal strap; and separable fasteners carried by the webs, those fasteners which are duplicated both longitudinally of the belt and transversely thereof, to permit an adjustment of the web-carrying end of the perineal strap both longitudinally of the belt and transversely of the belt. 1

A truss comprising ,a belt; a perineal strap attached at one end to the belt and terminating at its other end in a widened head having upwardly converging edges; :means for detachably assembling the head with the belt; a strip disposed transversely of the head and folded across the div'erging edges of the head to define a downwardly tapered pocket, the ends of the strip being overlapped upon and secured to the strap; the strip being provided with slits located adjacent the diverging edges of the head; and a pad in the pocket.
