IMPROVEMENT IN RACKS FQR HATS, BUNDLES, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,469, dated March 12, 1872 antedatecl February 21, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
1, CHARLES A. YOUNG, ofProvidence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Rack, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a jointed rack, the arm or arms of which are capable of being folded in a manner hereinafter described. The objects of my invention are the more convenient use of the rack and its economy'of space. This rack is intended to be used principally in the state-rooms of steamboats, and in hotels as a receptacle for hats, bundles, 820.; also, as a newspaper file, or for books in an office or reading-room; its arrangement for folding out of the way makin g it very convenient where economy of space is an object.
A Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure 1 is a front View, showing the position of the rack when not in use. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, shown in the same position as Fig. 1, by the dotted lines.

In the drawing, two arms are shown, but a single one may be used, in which case the centers of the rods a a a are fastened to the shell-pieces h h of the jointed arm b O, which should be made longer than when two or more arms are used.
