have invented a certain newv and useful Imrovenient in Tub-Beaters, of which the folowing is a specification.

This invention relates more particularly to machines for, the reduction of paper to pulp and-are commonly known in practice as tub beaters. In the use of the machine of this kind now commonly employed there is a large waste of time and energy due to the action of the machine upon material that is suiciently reduced before the entire mass is reduced. ,It is the object of the present invention to avoid at least some 4measure of this Waste by a construction adapted to remove from the tub al1 orv a portion of the sufficiently reduced material prior to the lsas reduction ofthe Whole mass.

The invention resides in the means em-` bodied in the example shown in the accompanying drawing and set forth in the iollowlng descriptiom'fthe features of novelty being finally claimed.

In the views 5 designates the elongated tub in vhich the paper to be pulped with the necessary `water or other liquids used in the rocess are placed. Secured in this tub longitudinally is the usual midfeather tot such length and so placed as to permit a.' circulation of the material around the tub when it is impelled at one -side of the midafeather.

Located below the perforation 143 is an` inclined trough or gutter 26 which is extended beyond' the opposite side of the tub so as 5to discharge 4the pulp into.a suitable receptacle placed there orthe purpose.

The gutter 26 has a lateral discharge 27 into the tub beyond the mid-feather. e

28 designates a removable gate fitting in' grooves 29 ofthe lateral discharge 27 so. that the contents of the gutter Will be directed to the receptacle beyond the tub. When said receptacle is to be removed or changed the gate 2S is placed vin the grooves 30 thereby causing the contents of the `gutter fte-disp chargel into the tub. The'iiow vof the contents of the gutter can thus be changed' without stopping the pulping operation.
