DRAWERS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 21. ms.

Inventor:
Atty
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRUS BENSON, OF SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO ADJUSTA COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
DRAWERS.
Application filed June 27, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS Brmson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Summit, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to mens drawers, and has for its object to provide improved means for adjusting the waist band thereon which will both increase the attractiveness of the garment and effect an economy in the cost of its manufacture.
To this end the invention consists in making adjustable the flat tape Suspender-loops which are usually attached to the waistband of the drawers, thereby providing neat and attractive means for the adjustment of the waist-band itself while at the same time permitting the waist-band to be made continuous from end to end and doing away with the adjustable opening in the back of the garment.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows in front elevation the upper portion of a garment embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 shows in fragmentary plan view, somewhat enlarged, certain specific means for adjusting the suspenderloops.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the body of the garment, 2 indicates the waistband which is made of a single piece of material or. of two or more pieces sewed together t6 form a continuous band, and 3 3 indicate the fiat strips of tape which are attached to the front of the waist-band, on each side thereof, to form the usual suspender-loops. The tape forming each loop is made in two sections, or is out intermediate its attached ends, and one or both of its free ends, 4 and 5, are adjustably held in a suitably slotted plate 6, preferably of rustless material; as here shown, for example, by passing the end 4 first forward through the slot 7 and then back through the slot 8 and b passing the end 5 first forward through the slot 7 and around the opposite end of the plate and then forward through the slot 8 and back through the slot 7.
The end 5 of the tape, after being passed through the slots of the plate, may either be sewed in place to the tape or left free Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1917.
Serial No. 776,006.
so that the plate can be adjusted with reand consequently the length of the waist-' band, is readily changed in use, by drawing the end 4 of the tape farther through the slots of the plate to shorten the Waisthand and by moving forward the end of the plate adjacent to slot 8 to release the end 4 of the tape when it is desired to let out the waist-banal. lVhen adjusted as desired the ends of the tape Will be bound against the edges of the slotted plate, and so securely held in position therein.
While l have shown and described what 1 now consider to be the best means to be used for adjusting the length of the suspender-loops it is obvious that other equivalent means can be substituted therefor without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages of my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. As a new article of manufacture, the combination with drawers having a waistband continuous from front end to front end of means for both supporting the garment and adjusting the size of the Waist, the said means consisting of suspender loops of flat tape, one on each side of the garment, each of which is permanently attached at its two ends to the waist-band and is rendered adjustable in length by being passed intermediate its ends through the slots of a plate in which it is adjustably held.
2. In a garment of the character described, the combination with a waist-band of combined suspender and waist-adjusting loops located one on each side of the garment and each comprising two sections of tape which at their outer ends are permanently attached to the waist-band and at their inner ends are secured in a slotted plate, one section of the tape adjustably so that it is capable of being drawn through the slots in the plate to shorten the loop and by tipping up one end of the plate will be released and can slide back through the slots to lengthen the loop.
