GEORGE 0. HOME. lmprovement'in Endless Chain Ho-rsie Powers. No. 124,208.
Patented March 5, I872.
- I I -ANVENTORL' UNITED GEORGE G. HODGE, OF NORTH DANVILLE, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN ENDLESS-CHAIN HORSE-POWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,208, dated March 5, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Rollers for Endless Chain Horse- Powers, invented by GEO. G.HoDGE, of North Danville, Caledonia county, Vermont.
This invention relates to that class of horsepowers in which the endless chain is supported upon strings of surface-rollers, mounted on decks lengthwise of thepower. Heretofore each deck has been supplied with one string of rollers, of sufficient length to inclose the entire deck and its supports. The disadvantage of this construction is, that it allows such long strings of rollers too much lateral play, rendering them liable to deviate and crowd against the side of the channel in which they run, and also carry the endless chains of lags against the side of the power, making much wear and friction. My invention consists in strings of rollers, made in sections, by means of which this disadvantage is obviated.
The figure is a perspective View.
A is the roller-deck, constructed with side pieces a and a center piece, I), all running lengthwise. On each side of the center piece are channels a, in which return the sectional strings of rollers 01 6, each string inclosing a support, resting upon the upper edges of the side and center pieces a I). These sectional strings of rollers are made so short that they cannot deviate sufficiently to crowd on either side of their channels. placed opposite the gaps between the sections (1, thus conducting the endless chain from one section (I to the other.
I claim as my invention- Rollers for endless-chain horse-powers, arranged in sections d e, substantially as specified.
GEO. G. HODGE.
