Be it known thatL'QUnvrUEs C. Prime- TON, a `citlzen of the United States, residing at Chapel, in the county of Mayes and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stone-Gatherers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for gathering stones and vlike material, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to prol Avide a device of this character capable of gathering stones'from arelatively wide -surace and delivering them into a suitable receptacle, such as a wagon box, arranged to travel with the gatheringy machine or apparatus. i
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein means are provided for adjusting the gathering end of the apparatus, or elevating it above the groundv when 'not' in use or when moving'from place to place.
With these and, other objects in view, the inventionconsists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and trative of the described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illu'sinvention- 1 v Figure 1 is a planview of the improved apparatus;l kfFig. 2 is a side elevation;

Mounted for oscillation upon the shaft 24 by suitable hangers, one of which is. shown --at 32,- is a ,carrier belt frame l including spaced 'side members 33 which extend for-v -wardly and downwardly betweenthe conl necting vbars 14, as illustratedin Fig. 1. At
their forward ends the members 33 are preferably curved outwardly and provided with relatively thin extension members 3 4, the` latter. being preferably of plate metal, while the members 33.may be of wood o1; metal as preferred. The members 34 (li-- verge outwardly and forwardly'in opposite directions, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and formgathering members for the improved apparatus, and thus materially' extendI the gathering field of the-same. Arranged withinthe space between the members 34 are a plurality of gathering lingers -or Rslats spaced apart and 'inclining and curving rearwafizdl and upwardly as lshownin Fig. 3.
Thes ats which are locatedforwardly of theV j space betweenl the'y members `33 extend in vparallel relation to each other and in parallel relation to the-longitudinal planes lof the members 34, these lslats orbarsbeing indi-i slats being indicated at 36 and merging cated at 35. The slats which are located between the longitudinally directed slats 35 and the members 34 are arranged obliquely to the longitudinal planes of the members 33 and substantially in parallel relation to each other and to the members 34, these latter at their inner ends into the outer slats 35. The members 34 are connected at suitable intervals by transverse members 37, and the members 37 are likewise preferably connected to the individual slats. By this means the members 37 and the slats 35-36 are firmly connected and supported and the forward portions of the members 33 likewise connected and supported. L
Mounted for rotation through the side members 34 and beneath the bars or slats 35 is a drum or roller 38 carrying a plurality lBf spikes or teeth 39 which project between the bars 35 as the drum is rotated and thus prevent stones or other material om clogging the spaces between the bars.
Suspended from the members 33 near their forward ends by suitable hangers, one of which is represented at 40, is a shaft 41 carrying chain pulleys 42. Chains or like devices 43 operate over the chain pulleys 25 and 42. The shaft 41 is provided with a chain pulley, indicated at 44, while thel shaft of the drum a similar chain pulley, indicated at 45, `a chain 45' operating over 44-45 and whereby the motion 41 is imparted to the drum 38.
The chains 43 are connectedat intervals by slat devices 46, preferably of L-bars as shown. Thebars 46 extend at their terminals nearly to the inner faces of the members 33, the latter projecting above the upper line ofthe slats to form side guards to the material carried up by the slats. The members 34 are provided near their forward ends with a bail device 47, the latter being coupled by a lifting rod 48 to an arm 49 projecting vfrom a lifting lever 50, the latter being pivoted at 51 in a suitable bracket 52 attached to the tongue C19. The bracket 52 is provided with a toothed segment 53 with which a pawl 54 is ada ted to engage, the pawl being actuated int e usual manner by a linger lever 55 carried by thelever member 50. By this means the forward or gathering end of the elevating mechanism may be adjusted vertically to any required extent, or elevated 'entirely free from the groundtwhen the apparatus is to be moved from place to place.

The members 57 are connected near their lower ends by a transverse gatherer board or guide 62 to form a lstop to the material delivered to the longitudinally directed belt and guided to the slats 51. The members .57 are arranged in an upwardly and outwardly inclined position and are supported at their lower ends from the bracket member 22 by connecting rod 64 extending through the members 57. rlhe members 57 are likewise supported by an upwardly arching extension 65' from the bracket member 23. At their outer ends the members 57 are provided -with a suitable chute 66 to guide the -material into a suitable receptacle, for instance, the box lor body portion 67 of a wagon, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4. The wagon or like receptacle will be drawn forwardly at the same time that the apparatus is moved forwardly, so that the material may be delivered to the wagon as fast as it is gathered. .o
The lateral slatted belt is-arranged to be operated by bevel pinions 68 and 69, respectively, on the main shaft 26 and the lower shaft 58 and a countershaft 70 carrying bevel pinions 71 and 72 to engage the pinions 68 and 69. The shaft 70 is mounted to run obljuely to the shafts 26 and 58 and may require a universal joint, indicated conventionally at 73. y
The supporting wheels 18 and the arched member 16, together with the elevatlng mechanism, may be dispensed with under certain conditions, and the arched member 13 extended and connected directly to the members 14, asshown in Fig. 6, when thus arranged the tongue 19 will be coupled directly to the member 13 by the clip device 20.
,Having thus described the invention, what is /claimed as new is:
1. ln an apparatus of the class described, a supporting frame, a gathering device carried by said frame, said gathering device including vertical gathering members converging inwardly and rearwardly, and hori zontal gathering members including bars spaced apart.

6. In an apparatus of the class described, a supporting frame, side guard members carried by said frame, outwardly and forwardly diverging gathering members extending from said s1de guards, and a plurality of bars spaced apart and disposed beneath said gathering members.
7. In an apparatus of the class described, a supporting frame, side guard members carried by, said frame, outwardly and for-` wardly diverging gathering members extending from said side guards, a plurality 'of bars spaced apart and disposed between said gathering members, and a conveyer device operating between said side guards and coacting with said gathering members.
8. In an apparatus of the class described, a supporting truck including traction wheels, side guard members swinging relative to said truck, outwardly and forwardly diverging gathering members extending from said side guards, a plurality of bars spaced apart and disposed between said gathering members, a conveyer device operating between said side guards and coacting with said mitting the motion of said traction gathering members, and means for transto .said conveyer device.
9. In an apparatus of the classdescribed,
