ROBERT E. INGAL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
RADIATOR ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 191'?.
Application filed October 15, 1915. Serial No. 56,112.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ROBERT E. INGAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county ofCook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Radiator Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in radiator attachments, and has for its object the provision of a construction of this character adapted to be positioned on an ordinary steam or hot water radiator to improve the quality of the air circulating thereover.
They invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawin forming a part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view, with portions removed and others broken away, of an attachment embodying my invention,
Fig. 2, a'longitudinal section of the same shown in position of use, and taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3, a similar section taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4, a transverse section of the attachment, and
Fig. 5, a rear elevation of the same.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a rectan lar vessel 6 having a water pan 7 forme along one side thereof, the other side of said vessel being provided with an opening 8 traversed by a reinforcing bar 9. A screen 10 is arranged in opening 8 and is supported on bar 9 and lugs 11, as indicated. The vessel 6 is provided with an opening 12 in the side opposite the opening 8, this opening 12 being also covered by a screen 13. The vessel 6 is provided with a removable cover 14 and with depending ianges or` aprons 15 around its lower ed es adapted to it over the sides and ends 0% an ordinary radiator 16 and maintain the vessel in position on said radiator. A depending guard or apron 17 is attached to the rear side of vessel 6 and is adapted to t between the radiator 16y and an adjoining wall 18, said guard serving to protect the wall and to 1nsure against over-tipping of the vessel.
In use the pan 7 is supplied with a suitable q uantity of water and the vessel is pos1- tloned on top of the radiator with the guard 17 interposed between the radiator and the adjoining wall in which position the opening 12 is in the outer side of the vessel. By th1s arrangement, the upwardly Howing air heated by the radiator 16 will pass upwardly through the opening 8 over the water in pan 7 and out through the opening 12, thus absorbing a suitable quantity of moisture for breathing purposes. The combined action of the screens 10 and 13, and the water in the pan 7 serve to eliminate dust from the alr.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I,
therefore, do not wish to be limited to the,
precise details of construction setY forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the class described com# prising a vessel arranged to be positioned on top of a radiator, there being an opening in the bottom of said vessel extendlng along one side thereof; a water pan occupying the other side of the bottom of said vessel; a reinforcing and supporting bar traversing sald openlng; a screen arranged over said opening and resting on said bar; and a screened opening in the side of said vessel above said water pan opposite the opening in the bottom thereof, substantially as described.
2. A device of the class described comprising a vessel arranged to be positioned on top of a radiator, there being an opening in the bottom of said vessel. extending along one side thereof; a water pan occupying the other side of the bottom of said vessel; a remforcing and supporting bar traversing Vso g i p 1,241,389
said opening; a screen arranged over said In testimony whereof have signed my y' opening and resting on said bar; a screened name to this specification in the presence of opening in the side of said vessel above said -two `subscribing witnesses. I. water pan opposite the opening in the bot- ROBERT E. INGAL.. tom thereof; and a depending apron on said Witnesses: vessel on the side opposite said screened J osfrUA R. H. Po'1'rs, opening, substantially as described. HEImN F. LILLIS.
