To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MAX KURTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waldron, in the county of Scott and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Evaporating- Pans, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates broadly to evaporators, and more particularly to a class of evaporators for drying fruits and vegetables by means of a steam application.
The present invention has as its principal aim and object to provide novel means for supporting the drying pan on the boiler, and to provide the drying pan with novel means to permit of the escape of steam from the boiler.
As an additional object and one of equal importance as the first mentioned object, the invention provides novel'means for movably connecting and supporting the boiler, forming a part of the evaporator, on the top of the stove so that the boiler can be swung from a transverse position over the fire box on the top of the stove to a position longitudinally of the top of the stove, the latter incidentally, being provided with cooperating receiving means for the supporting means to consequently allow the boiler to rest flat on the stove when in either of its adjusted positions.
As a further improvement, the invention embraces the provision of means for facilitating the movement of the boiler as well as means for facilitating the removal of the pan from the boiler.
Among the other aims and objects of the invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character mentioned, with a View to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the cost of production low, and the efiiciency high.
Other objects as well as the nature and characteristic features of my invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top plan of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of my invention in position over the fire box of a stove, the latter being shown partly in longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of my invention on the top of a stove, the latter being shown in transverse section.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section of my invention taken on line &4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a perspective detail.
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, I provide a stove including a body 1 having a top 2 provided with a plurality of lid openings 3 which are closed by lids 4a of any conventional type. As is usually the case the openings are arranged in pairs longitudinally ofthe top, one pair of the openings as is obvious being arranged over the tire box 5 adjacent one end of the stove. A stud 6 is arranged perpendicularly of the top of the stove adjacent the rear end and pivotally connected thereto so as to swing either transversely or longitudinally. On the top is my improved evaporator designated in its entirety by the numeral 7 In the present instance the evaporator consists of a lower receptacle or boiler 8 preferably of a rectangular configuration. An ear 9 extends from one end of the boiler and serves as a means for pivotally connecting the evaporator to the stove. Handles 9 of any conventional construction serve as means for moving the boiler, forming a part of the evaporator about the top of the stove. A drying pan 10 is constructed similarly to the boiler 8 though of a size slightly smaller and of depth of about one-half as great as the boiler. The upper edges of the ends of the pan 10 are flared to provide flanges 11 which rest on the edges of the ends of the boiler 8 so as to support the bottom of the pan in spaced relation to the bottom of the boiler. Of course, the boiler receives a quantity of water to consequently generate steam when the device is arranged over the openings which are in turn arranged over the fire box 5 and in order to allow this steam to escape, I have provided the sides of the pan with oppositely disposed vertically extending grooves 12 formed preferably by depressing the sides. Handles 13 of any conventional construction are rigidly connected to the flanges 11 so as to facilitate the removal of the pan.
With a View toward removably supporting the evaporator on the stove I have connected suitable casters to the outer or free lower end of the boiler. In the present instance the casters include rollers "14 which are rotatably mounted between the bifurcated endsoffthe shanks 15 the latter in turn being carried in thebracketlG which are connected to the boiler. As'is apparent the rollers are arranged in a plane below the bottom of the boiler so as to support the bottom in spaced relation tothetopo'f the stove while it is being moved. Incidentally,
the top of the stove is provided at one side adjacent the fire box end with suitable receiving means which consists of spaced recesses 17 formed preferably by depressing the top. Similarly constructed spaced rec'esses 18 are also formed at the opposite end of the top of the stove andadjacent the opposite side as indicated in 1 [of the drawings. These recesses 17 and18 are engageable by the rollers whenthe evaporator has'been swung into adjustableposit'ion to dallow'the bottom of the boiler'of the evapofratontoliefflat on the top of the stove. It isl'to be appreciated that the boiler can be used for preservingfruit in theusual manthat the jars can be properly heatedby placing the receptacle within the boiler preparato'ry to filling the jars with fruitthat has previously been prepared in the boiler. 40
:The operation offthe present invention maybe reviewed as follows After the boiler 8 has been partially filled with water the drying'pan 10 is arranged in v its prop'er position on the upper edge ofthe boiler and suitable fruit or 'vegetables are now properly prepared and arranged in the pan, whereupon the handles 9 are engaged and the boiler is lifted from the recesses "17 and swung from'a position indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1 about the top of thestfove to a position transversely of the 'top directly over the fire boX 5 ofthe stove.
It is to be appreciated that the rollers facilitate the'mo'vement of the evaporator about "the stove and incidentally are received in the recesses which permit of thebottomof the boiler contacting with the stove and also prevent accidental displacement of the evaporatorfrom the stove.
' The water in theboileris heated to a boiling point and generates steamwhich sufliciently heats the drying pan to eflicie'ntly dry the fruit or vegetables therein. As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter shown in the accompanying drawings shallbe interpreted as illustrative and not in alimitingsense.
