SUPPORT FOR MOTION-PICTURE FILMS.
Application filed November 3, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNE M. DELMAs, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Motion-Picture Films, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to supports for motion picture films and more specifically to supports for accommodating motion picture films during drying of the same after development.
The object of my invention is the production of a support of the character mentioned which will be adapted to compensate for shrinkage in the film during drying and thus prevent breaking of the film or interfering with the normal shrinkage of the film, the latter interference resulting in warping or distortion of the images on the film with the result of causing unsteadiness on the screen when the film is in use.
A further object is the production of a support as mentioned which will be of simple construction, and efficient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a film support embodying the invention,

Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail elevation of one end of the film and the connection member cooperating therewith.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a support for. the motion picture film A which consists of a plurality of spaced slats or strips 1 secured at their ends to end members 2, the resulting support being in the form of a drum about which the film is adapted to be wrapped or coiled as clearly shown in Fig.1.
Secured as by cementing or otherwise to the outer side of each slat 1 is a strip 3 of rubber or other suitable resilient non-abrasive material, said strip being hollow as shown in order to permit of depression or collapsing of the same whereby said strip Specification of Letters Patent.

will be adapted to yield under the tension of the film in shrinking and thus compensate for such shrinkage. Formed integral with and projecting from each of the strips 3 are spaced projections or studs 4 which serve to separate adjacent convolutions of the film wrapped upon the support. Said projections being integral with the strips 3 are also resilient and non-abrasive and thus prevent stretching, marring or other injury to the film such as frequently results at the present time because of the use of metallic or other non-yielding projections. Said projections are preferably of conical form as shown in order to facilitate automatic positioning of the film convolutions between the same in the wrapping of the film upon the support, it being clear that with this formation of said projections the film is adapted to more readily and easily find its position between said projections.
Provided at each end of the support is an elastic band 5 with which is connected a guard 6 provided at its outer end with a hook 7. The hook 7 is adapted for releasable engagement with an eyelet 8 provided in each end of the film, the latter being reinforced at its ends by folding of the corners B thereof as clearly shown in Fig. 3. With this arrangement it will be seen that a yielding connection is established between the ends of the film and the support so as to further allow for shrinkage as above described. Also with this arrangement an efficient means is provided for readily and easily connecting the ends of the film with the support, it being clear that engagement of the hooks 7 with the eyelets 8 or disengagement of said hooks from said eyelets may be readily and expeditiously effected.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efiect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore. do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A support for motion picture films comprising an element upon which the film is adapted to be wrapped; hollow, resilient,
non-abrasive members on said element at the points of engagement therewith of the film; and integral projections on said members for separating adjacent convolutions of the film, substantially as described.
2. A support for motion picture films comprising a frame upon which the film is adapted to be wrapped, said frame'consisting of a plurality of spaced slats; hollow,
10 resilient strips on the outer sides of said slats; and integral projections on said strips for separating adjacent convolutions of the film, substantially as described.
