VnNDINe-MACHI'NE..
Appiicauon nien october 11, 191e. serial N0..125,o5a
To all whom t may concern: l
Be it known that I, WILLIAM PRESTON' Hom, a citizen' of the United States, residv ing at V'Vilson, in the county of Mississippi tion, reference being had therein to the ace and State of Arkansas, have invented certain useful Improvementsin Vending-Machines, of which the following is a'specificacompanying drawing.
' The invention relates to -a vending machine, and more particularly to the vclass of liquid filled bottle vending-machines..
. AThe primary object of the invention isv the provision of a machine ofthis character' wherein 4bottles'iilled with vliquid can be placed therein,
' the mach'ne can be operated for ejecting a single bottle Y20.
therefrom, the machine Ibeing desi ed for the vending of liquid 4perfumery in bottles. Y
Another yobject of the invention is theprovision of a machine of this character where` in the coin, on inserting the same within the machine, vwill be deposited therein, and l should a spurious coin be deposited therein, the same will be ineifective for the operation ofthe machine.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character wherein the cor struction thereof is novel in form` and to assure the successive de- -liveryV ofthebottled liquid, singly, -on the deposit of coins within the machine, the coin controlled mechanism being positive in operation.
A still further robject of the-inventionv the provision of zig-machine of this character which possesses simplicity in construction, durability, reliability and eiiciency in its operation.l and also one which is inexpensive to manufacture.
With theseand other objects in view, the
invention `consists in the features of con# struction, combination and arrangement of parts, as willbe hereinafter fully described,l illustrated in the accompanying drawings,l
` and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended. D

and on the deposit of a coin 'of fa predetermined denomination or .value,
gently described.
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional speiiieation ofvLet'ers raient. i .Patented Sept. 18,1917,
Fig. is a sectional View on the line of Fig. 1. y v Y Fig, 5 is an end elevation. K v. Fig. 6 is a sectional View 0n the line 6`6 .ofFig 1.
S'milar' reference characters indicatel corv responding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
, Referring to the drawings in detail, the l' vending machine comprises av vbody A,
formed with a vertical column 10, and a controlled operating mechanism hereinafter .fullyT described. f 7
The column 10 isprovided with a vglass 'right angular extension 11, which provides a chamber 12 for accommodating the coiny panel sidewall 13,.and this'coli'imn formsv a holder for a'plural-ity: ofliquid lled bottles 14, preferably containing perfumery, which bottles are adapted to be ejected singly, from the column in. a manner v-pres- Arranged spaced - lower chambers 16 and 17, respectively,'the latter being designedfto accommodate coins 16 receives the liquid filled bottles 14, to be dispensedfrom'the machine. f.
Resting uponthe partition municating with the chamber 16 is a semi# cylindricalldelivery trough or chute 18, lwhich is formed at one end with a circular shaped delivery spout 'or mouth 19, protruding'without the body' A, and through which`- 'is delivered.'singly,v the bottleslll-,contain-` ing the liquid perfumery, on the operation' of the coin controlled operating mechanism hereinafter fully described. A l Arranged within the chamber adapted to work within the trough orv chute 18, 'which has its inner en'd opening into said chamber 12, is anejector arm or slide 20, which, at its end extended within the chute or trough18, is formed with an ejector head from the bottom. of thel .column 10 is a horizontalpartition 15,which divides 4the 'said `column. into upper and vdeposited inthe machine, 'while the chamber i5, and com- 21, to lie in the path of lthe bottom fend of the vbottle lllresting within the chute or y trough 18 of `thelowermost one of theseries stacked within the column 10, so that the` ionI arm or slide' 20. when operated. will eject Coperating with the -arm or slide 20, is
Athe said bottle'through the mouth or spout 19,- for the dispensing thereof.
ya plunger '22, which normallygprotrudes i' without the extensicnfllat' one`- end ihereofg;
through the guide slot 23 'ther-ein, and the inner end portion of this' plunger is formed with vertical and horizontal bifurcations 24 and respectively, While the arm or slide 2O is formed with a bifurcation 26, to co-act with the vertical bifurcation 24 in the plunger 22 for receiving the coin therein, .when inserted through a coin slot 27, formed inthe Atop of the extension ll, so that on inward moven'ient of the plunger by pushing thereon, the coin deposited will abut the closed ends ofsaid bifurcations 24 and 26, and thereby simultaneously move the ejector arm 2li with the jilunger for the ejeoting of a bottle from the column l() Without the same.
The bifurcations 25 and 26, in the respective plunger and arm 20, will permit independent movement of the said plunger 22 inwardly, without imparting movement to the arm or slide 20, when a coin hasnot been deposited within the machine, so that the ejecting arm or slide 20 is ineffective for the delivery of a bottle `Without the column 10 of said machine.
Suitahly anchored within the extension Il, below the path of movement of the arm 22, is a coiled expansion spring 28, which y acts against an abutment wing 29, on and depending from the plunger 22, to normally hold the plunger extended without the eX- tension il, and to return the said plungerto normal position after pushing the same 1n- Wardly on the deposit of a coin Within the machine for the operation thereof.
Above the point of anchor of the spring 20 Within the extension ,lifts a coin rest 30, havingr a. runway 3l, communicating with an inclined guide 32, within the extension for directing the coin inserted Within the machine.
Should a coin of improper size relative to the predetermined sized coin of a given denomination be deposited within the slot 27, it will drop onto the rest Slland thence fall through the runway 3l, and by the guide 32 be delivered into the chamber 17 for deposit therein, without becoming effective for the operation of the arm 20 by the plunger 92 to deliver a bottle ll from the column 10, and this is duc to'the extent of the vertical bil'urration 24 relative to the vbifurcation 26 in the plunger 22 and arm 2O respectively.
However.v on the deposit of a proper coin in the slot 27. and thcl operation of the plunger 22, the bottles 14 will be successfully ejected from the machine, or delivered therefrom.
The Wing 29 on the plunger and the shoulders 2H, thereon, limit the outward movement of said plunger to normal position. as will he apparent.
The column l0, at its top, is provided with a hinged lid or cover 35, which, when closed, can he locked in this position in any suitable manner, and access can he had to the column 1. In a vending machine, a body formed with a column and extenslon, a partition in the column, for dividing the same intov chambers, a delivery trough Within the upV permost chamber and terminating in a spout without the body, a bifurcated ejector slide movable Within the trough for ejecting articles singly therefrom throughy the spout, a plunger slidably fitted in thel 'extension and having a bifurcation for receiving a coin to position the same relative te the ejector 8K5.
slide, means for automatically projecting j Vthe plunger Without the extension, and a runway for the coin released by the'plunger and slide after the deposit of said coin for delivering the same into the. lowermost 90 chamber in the column.
2. In a vending machine, a body formedl with a column and extension, a partition in the column for dividing the same irte chambers, a delivery trough Within the upper- 9e most chamber and terminating in a spout without the body, a bifurcated ejector slide Within the trough for ejecting articles singl therefrom through the spout, a plunger sluis: ably fitted in the extension and having a, 1( bifurcation for receiving a coin to position the same relative to the ejector slide, means for automatically projecting the plunger i without the extension, a runway for the Acoin released by the plunger and slide after the 41| deposit of said coin for delivering the same into the lowermost chamber in the column, and means on the plunger for limiting the outward movement thereof.
3. In a vending machine, a bod;7 formed 1 with a column and extension, afpartition in the column for dividing the same into chamhers, a delivery trough Within the uppermost chamber and terminati in a spout without the body, a bifurcatef ejector slide 1 Within the trough for ejecting articles singly therefrom through the spout, a plunger slidably fitted in the extension and having a bifurcation for receiving a coin to position the same relative to the ejector slide, means 1 for automaticallyy projecting the plunger Without the extension, a runway for the coin released by the plunger and slide after the depositof said coin for delivering the same into the lowermost chamber, in the column, means on the plunger for limiting the outward movement thereof, and a transpearent panel forming one wall of the column.;
4. In a vending machine, a body formed With a column and extension, a partition in 1 I ably fitted in the extension and having a `bifurcation fon receiving a coin to position the same relative tothe ejector slide, means for 'automatically projecting the plunger without the extension; a runway for the coin released h v the plunger and slide utter lthe kelposit of said coin for delivering the same i`to the lowerniost chamber in the column7 means on the plunger for limiting the out- Ward movement thereof, a transparent panel forming one Wall of the column, and an opening cover at the top of the column.
