To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY R. KNowmis, a citizen of'the United States, residing at Ridley Park, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements ink Concealing-Screens for Visible.l Type-Writers; and I do declare the following to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the inveni tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainstomake and use the same.

This invention relates generally to typewriting machines, and more particularly to certain new and concealing screens machines.

The primary object of-the invention is to provide a screen which will enable an operator to conceal the typewritten sheet in the machine from the gaze of unauthorized persons.

Another object provide a screen of this character which 1s ymounted so as to enable the operator to throw it into effective position,or to throw it out of the way when inserting or removing thesheet, or correcting errors.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved and efficient meansfor detachably securingthe screen to the carfor visible typewriting riage of the typewriter.

With these and numerous other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fullv described and claimed.

In specifically describing the construction of the invention shown in the drawing above briefly described, similar reference characters will be placed on corresponding parts throughout the several views and reference will be herein made to the various elements by their respective indices.

To this end the numeral 1v designates a U-shaped supporting member, the arms of which are disposed in parallel relation and form a pair of brackets. Extending inwardly from one of the edges of the arms 3 at points adjacent their lower ends are notches 4, the lower edges of which at their innermost ends are provided with shoulders Fixed uponthe exterior sides of the arms 3 are stop members which may be made in a variety of ways, but which preferably consist `of laterally lextending plates 6. When the device is assembled upon the typewriter in this manner, it will be seen that the screen is spaced slightly above the platen and over the parts of the carriage and does not interfere in any manner-with the successful operation of the machine. The lug 10 arranged at the forward' edge of the front section 8 of the screen rests upon aportion of the rforward part of the 1 .typewriter carriage when this section is inv `its lowermost or' concealing position. From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the. accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the objects of thel invention have been effectively carried out as an extremely simple and inexpensive,yet

a comparatively strong' and durableconcealing screen for visible typewriters has been provided. Typewriters do not' have to be especially adapted for application of the invention thereto, and the, same may be quickly and easily attached to or removed therefrom. y i

As numerous changes in form, proportion, and in the-minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, it is to be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction herein shown and described.
