Voiron, a citizen of the United States of America, rel siding at Grand Rapids,jin the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Making Crochet-Needles; and I do hereby, decla-re the vfollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will'enable others skilled in the art towhich it appertains to make and use the same. j l
This invention relatesto a machine for making .crochet needles. 'j It is the object and purpose of the inventiontofprovide a mechanism in which arod or bar out' metal may be placed, the machine operating to turn one end of the bar around a suitable die and shape it into a hook such as is necessary to complete a crochet needle. A further object of the invention consists in the provision ot'. a simple and economically constructed machine for attaining the result stated and one in which the working parts of the machine that act upon the bar or rod` are compelled to pass through certain movements positively in the bendingand formingof the end of the bar into a hook.` Other objects and purposes together with novel details of structure Vforattaining the same will appear as understanding is had of' the invention, reference being had to the accompanying A drawings which illustrate a .preferred embodiment of the same. i I

A pin20 which is used to pivotally conneet the lower ends of links 16 and the bar 14 projects a distance beyond the links and enters a slot 21 formed in` one end of an operating bar 23, the pin being provided with a head 22 which serves to keep the bar from disengagement therefrom. The operating bar extends alongside gear 6 and has a portion cut awayon its under side adjacent its opposite end as indicated at 24 and is also formed with a concave notch 25 in which the stud 7 may seat. Below the notch 32 the irregular shaped member has a surface 32a which coacts with the die in completing the hook as will be later described. v
, A stop 33 is a'djustablj,7 secured to the end of table 11 directly above upright 10 and' is right angular in cross section one leg33L parallelingvtablell while the'other crosses it. The adjustment is effected by means of a screw 34 passing through the slot 35 in stop 33 and entering the table 11.

In combination, a table, a member having an inclined upper face and a pointed end pivotally mounted abovethe table, a cam rotatively mounted above the inclined face of the member, a lever secured to said cam and normally dropping` by gravity to thereby turn the cam against the member and force it toward the table against a needle bar held between the member and table, means for turning one end of said bar around thevpointed end of the member to turn a hook, and means for engaging with the lever to turn the cam and release the member after the hook is formed.
5. In combination, a table, a member having an inclined upper face and a pointed end pivotally mounted above the table, a cam rotatively mounted above the inclined face of the member, a lever secured to the cam t and normally actuated by gravity to turn the cam against. said member and thereby hold a needle bar interposed `between the member and table against movement, a device for turning one end of said needle bar around the pointed end of the members to make a hook, an operating bar, ymechanism connecting said bar with lsaid hook turning device, means for periodically reciprocating the operating bar, and means on said bar for engaging against the lever and turning the cam to release said member after the hook is formed.
6. In combination, a table, a member having a pointed end pivotally mounted at its opposite end and located above the table, links suspended from the table, a bar carried at the lower ends of the links7 a hook turning member pivotally connected to one end of the bar, means to reciprocate the bar, and
being provided with a curved slot, a pin carried a short distance from one end of the table passing through the slot and serving to guide the movements of said hook turning member over the pointed end of the rst mentioned members and means to periodically reciprocate the bar.
8. In combination, a table, a member having a pointed end pivotally mounted at its opposite end and located above the table links suspended from the table, a bar carried at the lower ends of the links, a hook turning member pivotally connected t0 one end of the bar, said member being provided with a substantially right angular notch normally positioned at the pointed end oi"- the iirst mentioned member, means to guide said hook turning member over the pointed end of the iirst member to turn on a bar held between said first member and table, means to hold said bar during the hook turning operation, and means to release the bar after 'formation of the hook.
9. In combination, a table, a member having an inclined upper face and a pointed end pivotally mounted a short distance above the table, a cam rotatively mounted above the inclined face of the member, a lever secured to the cam and normally dropping by gravity to thereby turn the cam against the member and force it toward the table against a needle bar placed between the member and table, a bar suspended be low the table, a hook turning device pivotally connected to one end of the needle bar and adapted iin-its movement to turn a hook over the pointed end of said member on the end oi' said needle bar, a member mounted for rotation, means to rotate said member, a pin projecting from said rotating member, a pin projecting from the bar suspended below the table, and a second bar provided adjacent one end with a slot having an enlarged portion at one end and with a long recess cut therefrom on its under side at the other end interposed between said pins, the pin 'on the rotatin member being received in the recess, and t e pin on the first bar entering said slot.
