Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SVEND E. SVENDSEN, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
WATER-FILTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented AW. 21, 1917.
Application filed. February 23, 1916. Serial No. 79,823.
Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Filters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to water filtering apparatus and its object is the provision of efiicient devices of this character, and of improved means whereby the apparatus may be employed with a sink faucet or the like without interfering with the use of the Same To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in longitudinal vertical section, of my im proved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The reference numeral 5 designates the peripheral wall and 6 and 7 the upper and lower heads which are detachably connected to the peripheral wall, as by a screw thread 8, and constitutes a casing.
Said heads are desirably provided with recesses 6 and 7 to accommodate the extremities of a foraminated tubular member 9 and the ends 10 of a tubular water-straining liner 10 of felt or other suitable material.
The member 9 and liner 10 serve as a partition to dividethe casingto afford within 'such partition a chamber 11 and an annular chamber 12 between the partition and the casing wall 5.
13 represents an outlet tube which is unprovided with a valve and communicates with the chamber 12 at a distance from its lower end.
The inner chamber 11 is connected with a service pipe 14 which also supplies water to a sink or basin faucet 15 so that the filter may be utilized independently of or simultaneously with the faucet.
More particularly, the pipe connections 16 between the service pipe 14 and the faucet 15 includes in its length a T-fitting 16 into the branch of which is screwed the threaded end of a. so-called street-ell 17 which, in turn, is connected by nipples 18 and a valve 19 with a second ell 20 screwed into a socket 21 provided in the casing head 7 By such connections, water may be delivered into the inner chamber of the filter and thence after passing through the straining liner 10 and ables filtered or unfiltered water to be selectively drawn.
What I claim is The combination with a water supply pipe, a faucet, horizontal pipe connections including a T-fitting between said supply pipe and said faucet, and a filter having a side outlet spout, of a sectional horizontal inlet pipe connection for said filter, connected with said T-fitting provided in the aforesaid pipe connections and to the filter by I elbows, and a valve interposed between sections of the horizontal portion of said inlet pipe connection.
Signed at Seattle, -VVashington, this 1st day of February, 1916.
