Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a top view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section of my invention. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section of the same.
This invention relates to machines for outtingthe shoulders and pivots on slatsfor blinds and the like; and it consists in a combination of old and new devices, producing a machine for that purpose that is easily managed and effectual in operation.
The frame A B O is constructed in the generalform shown, and consists of four cornerposts, A, end ties B, B and B side rails O and D D, connected together as shown, and made of wood. A beam, E, preferably of cast metal, rests upon and extends from post to post on each side of the frame, as a support and guide for the two carriages P and P, the one, P, being made fast to the beams by bolts, and the other, P, being movable, and fastened by means of clamps and thumb-screws a and a. The carriage P is moved and controlled by means of a crank, W, and a long single screw, F, working in female screws cut in lugs b and b projecting downward from the under side of the carriage. On the tables P and P are secured, by screws and bolts, the iron frames 0 and 0 which furnish bearings for the punches O, as shown. The punches O are held in place by the caps m and pressed back by the springs 'n. The bank-heads N, against which the slat presses, by the aid of the screw 0 regulates the length of the pivot on the slat. On the screws 0 are springs :0, to give the bank-head an easy action. On each carriage there are two single shoulder-beds, 4, on which beds the knife-carriages Z operate, and by which they are guided and held in place. The shaft Z passes through bearings projecting upward from the beds 4, and the carriages Z as shown, to serve as a support for the springs I, that tend to throw the carriages Z back, and as a slid-. ing rod for the carriages Z, to which the knives are attached by adj ustable set'screws and slots, as shown. On the face of each carriage P P is bolted an adjustable clamp, 12,which holds the slat in place. 7 The propelling machinery is placed beneath the carriages P P, as shown. Two elbows, A and B project upward from a central piece which is pivoted in bearings e. To these elbows are pivoted connecting-bars i and g, respectively. The short arm 9 is attached to the arm h, which is connected to the punch on the fixed carriage P and the long arm 2' is perforated, as shown, and pivoted in a slot in an arm, h, which is also, perforated, for the adjustment of the. arm a". The arm h is connected with the punch on the adjustable carriage P. Two other elbows, A and 13, project from the central piece,.and to their ends are pivoted the arms a and b, which are pivoted to a slotted arm, 0, which is pivoted to a vshort arm, 00, that is pivoted to the slotted head of a set'screw, f, in the pedal R, which acts as a lever, having its fulcrum in brackets 6. The punches O arethrust forward by pressure on the pedals, the motion of which is governed and regulated by uprights and set-screws 7, and this leverage regulates the depth that the punches out the slot and form the pivot on it. The machine is adjusted to slats of different lengths bymoving the carriage P, by loosening the set-screws in the table P, and in the elbows O and C. The shoulders and pivots on the slat are cut and punched alternately, without moving the slat, but by pressing alternately on the pedals.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination of table P, frame 0 punch O, bank-head N, beds 4, knife-carriage Z, clamps 12, springs n, 0 and Z, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination of the set-screwsa and a,
adjusting-screw F, and crank W with the carriages P and P, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination of elbows A B A B, arms 2' and g, arms a and 1), arm 0, arm or, set-screw f, pedal Q, all constructed and arranged substantially as, and for the purposes set forth.
4. The combination of elbows G and O shafts 'D and D arms 19, plate f, set-screw and pedal R, adjusting-screw'7, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth. V
