Be it known that LUCIA H. MANNE- sGHMrDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Brunswick, New Jersey, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boiler-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to water distribution, and more especially to detachable pipe couplings; and the primary object of the same is to produce a coupling formed from` a single piece of metal or casting having a plurality of arms or branches so disposed that the product is especially useful in connecting a stand boiler with its source of water supply whatever the latter may be, and providing also a valved drain branch for cleaning out the boiler and pipes and a socketed branch for supporting the casting and boiler from a suitable base.
I further aim to produce a structure of this type having a removable shell which serves as the seat for the drain valve, and provided with a port so disposed that the shell is located at the juncture of the bores of several branches of the casting, whereby a suitable tool may be introduced into any of them when the shell is to be withdrawn.
I further aim to provide a boiler stand including a water supply connection having branch portions respectively disposed in the same horizontal line with each other, and a drain passage disposed intermediate said portions and with such regard thereto as will permit of a complete cleaning out of all portions of the connection wherein sediment or incrustation may accumulate and one wherein a cleaning wire or tool may be readily inserted into the bore of any open branch.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a stand, including a connection having a portion designed to be attached to the supply source and a valved draining branch having a removable valve seat'disposed relatively of the aXial bore of the structure whereby to permit the seat to be exposed in a manner which will permit the sameto be substantially and eX- peditiously manipulated by a suitable eX- tracting or removable tool.
In the drawings forming a part of this e specification and in which like reference numerals indicate similar parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a vertical section through a portion of a boiler showing the application of a stand thereof.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the connecting member.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The device is designed for wholly supporting the boiler from the base or bottom thereotl and it consists or' a relatively broad base flange 1, having a vertical central boss 2 in which is iitted the lower end of a pipe section or standard 8, the latter being adapted to be arranged in a line with the vertical aXis of the boiler as shown in Fig. 1. The upper end of the pipe section or standard 3 is fitted in a socket l formed in the lower or\ depending branch or arm 5 of a connecting member 6.
The latter is preferably a casting substantially of -cruciform coniguration as shown in Fig. 3 and in line with the branch 5 it is provided with an upper branch 7 threaded as at S for connection with the central boss 9 upon the crown or bottom wall 10 of the boiler, This branch has adjustably mounted thereon a clamping iiange or nut 11 which is adapted to be adjusted against the mentioned wall 10 of the boiler as shown in Fig. 1. As stated, the casting 6 is substantially of cruciform configuration, being provided with horizontally alined side ` branches 12 and 13 having a common bore 14 which extends entirely through the casting andintercepts the bore of the upper branch 7. The branch 12 may be connected with the water back o1' a range, while the branch 13 is designed to be connected with the coil of a gas or electric heater. The branches 12 and 13 are identical in construction so that either may be connected with the mentioned water circulating sources. Any branch may be closed by a suitable plug, not shown, when it is desired to connect the boiler with only one source of water supply or circulating system. The branches 12 and 13 are provided with coupling nuts 15 which may be connected in the usual manner with the water supply sources.
The casting 6 is provided further with a horizontal boss or front branch 16 having an internal valve chamber 17 whose outer end is closed by ,a suitable cap 1S in `which is designed to ivorla controlling),l valve stem 19. This stem is movable axially of. the

Incident tothe described relation of the shell to the branches 12 'and18, it is evident that thecrimped flange 26 may beexposed from every end of the connection when it is desired to Jextract or remove the seat. 4A suitable *tool may be manipulated around allsides of theseat in order to release the flange 26 from the inner WallS of the con nection.
