- Patented Au *7, 1917.
Application filed February 24, 1916. Serial No. 80,258. I
ToaZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN S. JENKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lima, in the county of Allen and State of Ohio, have invented certainn'ew and useful Improvements in Glass-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to covers for medicine containers and the primary ob ect is to provide a cover for a glass receptacle 1n which is contained medicine that 1s to be taken 1 by a patient at pre-determlned 1ntervals.
The invention further aims to provide a device of this character which contains means whereby the person who is taking the medicine or the person who is administering the medicine may tell at a glance at the cover at just what time of day the medicine is to be taken or administered.
As a further object of the invention the cover is provided with means whereby a spoon which is used by the patient for taking the medicine may be suspended from the side of the glass container so as to be ready for use at all times. Y
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be employed to cover or set over pills, powders, tablets or other similar forms of medicine when they are lying on the table or stand and whereby the means for indicating the time to take the medicine may be employed equally as well as in the instance of the use of the device as a glass cover.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cover for a medicine receptacle which will consist of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, in which, 7
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the device showing it applied to a medicine glass.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
In prescribing medicine to a patient it is often necessary to have the intervals at which the patient is to take the medicine regulated to stipulated fractional parts of the day or hour. Where it is necessary to remember the time at which the last dose of medicine was taken, an, error will often occur which will retard the progress of the patient if the medicine is such as should be taken at the exact time prescribed by the physician. This inventionaims to overcome this uncertainty and is designed in a manner that will allow itto be used on the ordinary glass container or drinking glass-which is commonly used for mixing medicines in liquid form. As pills, powders and tablets are often the means used for taking other medlclnal ingredients, the device may be employed equally as well for these forms of medicine as it is for a glass container above described.
The cover consists of a circular disk 1 'face of a clock or watch, whereby the time may set at which the medicine within the container is to be taken. Pivoted upon the center of the disk is an indicator hand 5 which is arranged upon a pivot pin 6 mounted in the center of the disk 1, whereby the indicator hand 5 maybe turned to register with any one of the numerals or any fractional part of the space between each of the numerals. The indicator hand 5 may be set at the time at which the next dose or portion of medicine is to be taken by the patient and any uncertainty as to the period of time elapsing between the taking of the doses will be obviated.
The flange 2 has integrally formed therewith and extending outwardly therefrom for a short distance the prongs 7 which are curved toward each other and have their ends sllghtly spaced a art to provide a space 8 between the edge 0 the flange 2 and the prongs 7 into which a spoon handle may be inserted at its narrow. portion and suspended by the large end of the spoon when it is not in use. The disk 1 has formed on its under side a depending ring 9 which extends from the disk 1 for a short distance in the form of a short cylinder. The edge of the ring 9 may be placed upon a table or stand to cover a number of pills, powders or tablets and the cover used for indicating the time to take this form of medicine in a manner similar to its use as a cover for a liquid medicine.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a very simple and durable cover has been provided, the details of which embody the preferred form. I desire it to be understood, however, that slight changes or modifications in the minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
I claim:
In a cover for medicine containers, the combination with a liquid container, including a circular disk adapted to be disposed within the container at the upper portion 20 thereof, and having an annular flange formed integrally With its marginal edge and depending below the said disk, a convex annular flange integrally formed with the marginal edge of the disk and adapted to be mounted on the marginal edge or the said liquid container, and a pair of laterally projecting curved prongs integrally formed with the said convex flange and projecting over the edge thereof, the terminals of the I" said prongs being disposed in close prox imity.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
