HERMANN SANDVOSS, 0F HEIDELBERG, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM 0F STREBELWERK, GESELLSCHAFT MIT BESCHRANKTER HAFTUNG, 0F MANNHEIM,
GERMANY.
THERMOSTATIC REGULATOR.
Application filed April 28, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1,-HERMANN SANDVOSS, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of 62 Leopoldstrasse, Heidelberg, Germany, engineer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thermostatic Regulators, of which the following is a statement.
The present invention relates to thermostatic regulators, in which the body intended to carry the temperature which, being of a tubular shape, filled with an expansible liquid and communicating by means of a pipe connection with the regulator proper is provided with a plunger, adjustable from outside by means of a set screw, which plun ger may, by its displacement enlarge or reduce the space filled by said liquid, and thereby cause an earlier or later closing of the regulating member.
The invention consists essentially in that both the set screw for varying the space for the expansible liquid in the temperature carrying body and also the joint of the latter .with the pipe connection are covered With guard caps, which are also made to serve as fixing means, and prevent the apparatus being tampered with by unauthorized per sons.
In the accompanying drawing an embodiment of thepresent invention is exemplified in a longitudinal section.
The temperature carrier consists in known manner of a tubular vessel a filled with an expansible liquid, which vessel ct communicates by means of alhin pipe Z) with a regulating device 0 of the known kind (a similar device has been described in the United States Patent 934,632), said connecting pipe being attached to the bottom of the vessel, while at the top the said vessel is provided with a plunger 61 packed by means of an elastic, corrugated metallic hose 0. The rod of said plunger passes loosely through the head a of the vessel a and carries on its outwardly projecting, threaded end an ad justing nut e, which bears against the head of the vessel, and by being turned in the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 241, 1917. Serial No. 24,573.
one or the other direction lets the plunger d enter more or less deeply into the vessel a. This nut e is encompassed bya threaded cap fwhich engages a correspondingly threaded section of head a and which allows of the said nut being adjusted only by aid of a spanner having a special shape, so that no unauthorized person can adjust the nut e. In a similar manner also the end of pipe b that enters bottom of vessel a is covered by a hood 9 that depends from said bottom so that the pipe is here also rendered inaccessible. The cap f and hood 9 are made fiat at the back and provided there with threaded holes it, so that they may be secured by means of screws '5 to the board is, and thereby at the same time serve as fixing means for the temperature carrier.
The cap 7 and hood g are rounded off, so that no particles of dirt can accumulate on them; they may, however, be made of any suitable shape. The upper cap 7 is besides encircled by a strap Z, on which any suitable inscription may be provided.
I claim:
1. A thermostatic regulator comprising a tubular vessel adapted to contain an expansible liquid, a regulator proper, a tube connecting the vessel with the regulator proper, an apertured head on the vessel, a plunger adapted to engage the expansible liquid and having a threaded rod that passes through the apertured head, a nut bearing upon the head and engaging the threaded rod, a cap encompassing the nut and engaging the head, and vessel-attaching means adapted to engage the cap.
2. A thermostatic regulator comprising a tubular vessel adapted to contain an expansible liquid, a regulator proper, a tube connecting the vessel with the regulator proper, a hood secured to the base of the vessel and covering the end of the tube, and vesselatt-aching means adapted to engage the hood.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature.
