It will now be apparent thatl have devised a novel and useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable, and while I'have in the present instance shown and described the ,preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it to be understood that I do not restrict myself to the details,

In a grinding machine, the combination of a main frame, a transversely reciproca-ble slide frame having a work support and a pattern support at different elevations, means to reciprocate the slide frame, a slid ing head movable to and from the slide frdmmaneans for 'rmiprocating the head, a grinding-wheel carried by the head in substantial horizontal al'inement with the work support, a traverse arm also carried by the head in substantial horizontal alinement with the pattern support, a pattern detachably clamped upon the pattern support and engaged by the traverse arm, an adj list-able and relatively to thepattern to govern the extent of cut to be given to the Work.

The combination of a horizontally reciprocating work support a rotating grimling wheel, a support for the grindin wheel, means to reciprocate the support am grinding Wheel to and from the work support, means to reciprocate the work support across the plane of rotation of the grinding wheel, means to control the reciprocations of the grinding wheel and its support comprising a pattern and a traverse arm movable over, the pattern, and hand adjusting means for adj listing the work support transversely to its reciprocating movement independently of the pattern to regulate the extent of cut on the horizontally reciprocating work support.
