To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL MYETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have'invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Reeling or Spooling Wire and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in machines for reeling or spooling wire and the like, and the primary object thereof is toprovide a machine of this character which embodies improved means for effecting-automatic slowing up of the movement of the laying means upon increase of the diameter of the reel or spool upon which the wire is being laid.
Further, the invention aims to provide means for the purpose above mentioned, which is certain and positive in its action, and which is devoid of parts subject to be coming easily rendered inoperative or inefficient in action. 7
Still further, the invention aimsto provide means which is compactly organized and of simple economical structure to attain the purpose mentioned.
Further and other objects will be later herein set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.

latter being reversely related to the cone pulley 19, through the medium of an endless belt 21. Cone pulley 20 is mounted on a shaft 22 which latter has a pulley 23 on its outer end over which is trained an endless belt 24, the latter engaging a pulley 25 mounted on the bobbin shaft 26. A second pulley 27 is mounted on the bobbin shaft 26 and derives power from the belt 28 trained thereover, which latter in turn derives power from any suitable source.
Mounted in suitable guides 30 formed in the standards 9 is a sliding Weighted frame 31 which frame is formed with a longitudinal opening 32 through which the roller 8 of the finger follower 4 loosely projects, and connected to the lower end of the frame is one end of a chain or cord 33 which is trained over pulleys 34, 35 and 36 and connected at its opposite end to a suitable belt shipper 37. This belt shipper is shown as embodying a member slotted to receive the belt I 21 so as to ship the belt either to the right or left by engagement with the opposite sides of the belt 21, as is manifest.
The opposite end of the belt shipper is connected to one end of a cord or chain 38 which latter is trained over a pulley 39 and is tensioned in any suitable manner, as for instance by the weight 40.
.Arranged in overlying relation to the worm shaft 7 is a guide formed of two spaced horizontal members 41 which are spaced apart and preferably set on edge so as to engage the wire W and support the same, and received in the space between the guides 41 area pairof vertically extending guide fingers 42, which latter are mounted on a nut 43 which receives the worm 7 The .nut 13 supports arm 6 and is formed with belt 28 which drives the bobbin shaft 26 and V therewith the bobbin 3* and at the'same time drives the belt 24. The belt 24 drives the pulley 23 'of' the shaft 22', and the latter by -'v1rtue of carrying the lower cone and through the medium of the belt '21 drives the upper cone 19 and therewith shaft 17, and since shaft 17 has -'apulley 16 thereon, ithe latter drives the belt 15 and pulley 1 1 engaged with belt 15. The pulley 1 1 being mounted 'onthe stub shaft 13, the latter carrying the gear 12, it will be seen that since-thegear-12 meshes with the gear 11 and the latter meshes withthe gear 10 of worm. shaft-1 7, the worm shaft is consequen-tly rotated and the latter, through the nut 43 effects movement of' the follower fingerj. When now the layers on the bobbin 3 increase and the diameter of the lat- .ter is thus accordingly increased it will be Q seen that thef'ollower finger twill be moved V on roller 8,-the framewill be raised pulling so as to effectaf slower motion of the worm shaft as the diameter of the spool or bobbin outwardly by each succeeding layer of wire causing the roller 8 of thefinger to be raised and since the weight frame 31 rests on the chain 33, so as to move the shipper 37am therethrough belt 21', so as to control thespeedf of the worm shaft 7 accordingly 3: increases.
