herein described and claimed. I
An object of my inventionis to provide a device which will make a complete separation of the valuable material from the gangue regardless of the degree of fineness of the latter.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device which is especially adapted for treating slimes and like masses and for working tailings which are the result of the treatment of materials by other methods or machines.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the device will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
- ,My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the device, and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the table:
In carrying out my invention I provide a central supporting base 1 upon which is mounted a column 2. The support 1 bears a table 3 which is inclined downwardly from its center and which is provided with a vertically movable rim 4 at the edge of the table. Between the edge of the table and the rim 4 is a resilient wiper 5, which prevents leakage between the table and the rim. At 6 I have shown a support which may be held in any suitable manner upon which is mounted a distributer 7 whose upper surface 7* is inclined, ball bearings 8 being disposed between the distributor and support 6. The distributor bears a cup 9 which is perforated at 9". A beveled gear 10 is secured to the cup and is arranged to mesh with a beveled gear 11 on a power shaft 12. A chute 13 has one end disposed above the cup 9. Supported on the top of the column 2 is a cylinder 14 which is provided with a piston 15 having a stem 16 extending upwardly through the end of the cylinder, a'packing gland 17 being provided at the top of the the outer rim and leave the clean ore.
cylinder. The piston stem 16 bears a head I 17' through which are pivoted levers 18. The latter are connected by links 19 to the rim 4. The outer ends of the levers 18 are fulcrumed at 20 upon uprights 21 carried by supports 22. Secured to the distributor 7 are brushes 23. 7
At 24 I have shown a pump which is connected by a pipe 25 with the branch'pipes 26 and 27 leading to the cylinder 14, one of these pipes communicating with the cylinder I below the piston and the other above it. Pet cocks 28 and 29 are also provided for the cylinder 16.
volved by means of the power shaft 12.
This ore passes down the revolving distribvuter 7 on to'the table where'it is swept over .by the brushes which cause the light stones and the refuse in the gangue to pass over The gangue is carried over the outer edge of the rim 4 and may be conveyed away by any suitable means.
As the process proceeds it is desirable to raise the rim 4. In practical operation it would only raise or lower once or twice during twenty-four hours. The raising of the rim is accomplished by the hydraulic means which forms the principal feature of this invention. Thus when the rim is desired to be raised the cock 28 is opened thereby permitting the pump to force water underneath the piston 15. This causes the raising of the latter, which, through the medium of the piston stem 16 and head 17, moves the levers 18, thus raising the rim 4. When it is desired to lower the rim the cook 28 is closed and the cook 29 is opened and the water is now passed in on the opposite side of the piston.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a device by means of which the rim may be raised or lowered in accordance with the amount of ore on the table. This is accomplished by merely manipulating one of the two valves 28 or 29 and may be raised rapidly or slowly as desirable, since it is obvious that if the valve is only opened but a little the motion will be a slow one while if it is opened wider it will be rapid.
I claim:
1. In an ore separator, a conical shaped table, means for feeding ore to said table near the center thereof, a vertically extending rim around said table, said rim being movable with respect to said table, a series of vertically extending rods secured to said rim, means for moving each of said rods vertically simultaneously and to the same extent, thereby causing the movement of the rim with respect to the table, said last named means comprising a series of uprights disposed around the table and outside the edges thereof, a series of levers pivotally connected ,with the upper ends of said uprights and tically simultaneously and to the same extent, thereby causing the movement of the rim with respect to the table, said last named means comprising a series of uprightsvdisposed around the table and outside the edges thereof, a series of levers pivotally connected with the upper ends of said uprights and with said vertically extending rods, a common movable member pivotally secured to the inner ends of said levers, hy-
draulic means for operating said last named movable member, said hydraulic means comprising a cylinder, a piston therein, means for introducing liquid into the cylinder on either side of said piston, and a piston stem connected with said movable member.
3. In an ore separator, a base, .a central column supported by said base, a cylinder mounted on said column, a piston in said cylinder, a conical table, a drum arranged to revolve about said central column, brushes carried by said drum and adapted to sweep ,over said table, a vertically movable rim in contact with the edge of the table, and means connected with the piston for raising and lowering said rim and for maintaining the various positions of the rim in parallelism.
4. In an ore separator, a base, 'acentral column supported by said base, a cylinder mounted on said column, a piston in said cylinder, a conical table, a drum arranged to revolve about said central column, brushes carried by said drum and adapted to sweep over said table, a vertically movable rim in contact with the edge of the table, a 'plurality of radially extending levers pivotally connected with the piston rod, and clownwardly extending links connected to said levers at one end and to said rim at the other end.
