METHOD AND MEANS FOR REMOVING CARBON IN INTERNAL-COMBUSTION ENGINES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, Marion county, and State of Indiana, have invented and discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Methods and Means for Removing Carbon in- Internal-Combustion Engines, of which the following is a specification.

In said drawings the portions marked A B the spark plug, C an injector tube, and D an injector for forcin the carbon remover substance through sald tube, all as will be hereinafter I more fully described and claimed.
The engine A and spark plug B are, or may be, of any ordinary or preferred type and arrangement and need no special'description herein.
The injetor tube C is preferably mounted by means of screw-threads in a perforation I connected, by means jector or force pump 'D.

Said injector consists of a cylinder D having a reciprocating piston or plunger 20 on the lower end of the piston rod 21, which piston rod runs in a central perforation in a head 22 secured in the upper end of said cylinder. The piston is held in a normally elevated position by a coiled spring 23 interposed between said head and a knob 24 on the upper end of the rod. The plunger is provided with air vent perforations 25 normally closed by a check valve 26 mounted on a screw 27 inserted in the lower end of the piston rod'and having a coiled spring 28 for normally holding the check valve closed. Said cylinder is provided with a transversely extending member 29 having a centrally positioned horizontal shelf or support 30' and closed by a thimble-cover 31 that can be secured thereon in any desired manner. A

1, by removing the thimble-cover 31. After the salt is deposited thereon, the cover is replaced and the device is then ready for use by connecting the discharge spout 33 of, the member 29, by means of hose 16, with the inlet or upper end 15 of the valve casing 12.

through the narrow discharge opening of the' lower end of pipe C, spraying said salt forcibly agalnst the circuit terminals 10 and 11 and adjacent'parts of the spark-plug and cylinder. ordinarily covered with carbon. This serves to cut the carbon from said parts. Either at the same time, if the engine is in operation, or subsequently, after the engine is put in operation, the salt itself is dissolved under the heat generated and further serves bustion engine and spark plug, of a carbon remover device consisting of an injector tube located alongside discharge nozzle directed to discharge said spark plug with its internal comagainst the terminals thereof, a valve for controlling the passage through said tube, and a force feed injector containingcarbon remover substance adapted to be connected with said tube, whereby said carbon remover substance may be forced against said terminals, substantially asset forth.
2. A carbon remover device for internal combustion engines comprising an injector tube located alongside the spark plug with its point disposed to discharge against the terminals of said spark plug, and means for forcibly injecting carbon remover substance through said tube under pressure in the form of a spray substantially as set forth.
3. The metho of removing carbon from the terminals of a spark plug or other arts which consists in directing a spray 0 salt against said parts under pressure, substantially as set forth.
4:. A carbon remover device for internal combustion engines comprising an injector tube located alongside the spark plug with its discharge opening adjacent to the terminals in said spark plug, and a device for forcing carbon remover said injector tube connected therewith and consisting of a cylinder provided with a carbon remover substance container and aplunger for driving said substance through the discharge opening of pressure, substantially as set forth. 1
