and has for its object to provide, in a manne as hereinafter set forth, a receptacle of such class, which is employed as a container in which the matches can be packed for shipping purposes, as the ordinary match box, but also as a match safe and container for the 'burnt match sticks.
A further object of the invention is to provide a match receptacle ha ving means, in a manne' as hereinafter set forth, whereby a match box can be quickly converted into a match safe so that the -matchesl can be conveniently removed when desired.A
-Further objects otl the invention aie to provide a mat-ch receptacle for the purpose set Vforth which is simple 'iii its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, etiicientv and convenient in its use. and vc(imparatively inexpensive. to manufacture. i
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel c0nstruction, combination and arrangement of` parts` as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variationsI and inmlifi'cations can be resorted to which comel within the scope of the'clainis hereunto appended.
1n the drawings wherein like reference. characters denote corresponding' parts throughout the several views L* Figure 1 is a perspective. view illustrating the receptacle converted into a match safe and a container for burnt match sticks.
`Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of theA receptacle when set up 'as a-inateh box for shipping and storage purposes.
Fig. 3 'is a vertical sectional view, broken awa v, of the match safe. 50
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional View of the inner section of the receptacle upon a reduced scale. i l
Referring to the drawings in detail the receptacle includes an outer and an inner' section, the former comprises a bottom l, a pair of side walls 2, 3, a back wall -t and a front wall 5. The side and backwalls are thereof.
,a pair of matches of the same height or length. The front wall is of less height or length than the back wall. The front wall extends from the upper end ofv the side walls and terminates at a point removed from the bottoni thereb)l providing the front of the outer sec-tion with a rectaiigi-ilar opening for a purpose to be hereinafter referred to. The back wall at its upper end is formed witl. an opening l".
The inner section, which contains the matches 22, is of less length than the outer section and when positioned within said.
outer section is mounted against the bottoni Thel inner section is in the form of a tray and consists of' a top S, bottom t), a pair of side walls 10 and a back wall. The upper portion of each side wall 10isirein forced asat 12, and the lower portion of each Side Wall is yalso reinforced as at 13. The reinforcements are arranged oii the outer faces of said walls and also provide means for causing a snug tit between ,the outer and inner sections when the latter is mounted in the former. The reinforcements 12, 13, are spaced from each other providing pockets 14, for a purpose. to be referred to.
I1`orming a part of the bottom l), at the front thereof as 4well as being hinged there-- with, is a trough forming member consisting of-a rectangular front piece 15 having a pair of inward extensions 1G, of triangular shape, which have their inner eiidsprovided the front piece 15 will extend across the' The trough' inner section, bearing against the side walls n thereof, and the triangular extensions will be-positioned 1n the pockets 14. The tray formin(r member is maintained in the iosi.
tion stated by a severa-ble strip 2() which is secured to the outer face of the lower portion of the front wall 5 and the upper portion of the outer face of the front piece 15. The strip 2O is termed a holding member and has a suitable inscription, as at 21, to indicate where the strip is to be. cut., so as to free the trough forming member, to en-4 able the latter to swing forward through the opening', to provide a trough containing veniently removed when desired.
The protuberances 17 `project upwardly. from the extensions 1G so that they will whereby the latter can bc coii- I engage the rear of the front wall 5 and arrest outward movement of the extensions .1(3 and front piece 15. l
Mounted in the top of the outer section and against the upper end of the inner section is av rectangular container 23, having its inner face lined with asbestos 24. Thel container is adapted to receive 'the burnt match sticks l25, and has an opening 26, which registers with the opening 7. A suspension means is adapted toextend through the registering. openings for supporting the receptacle when the latter is employed as a match safe.
The container snugly fits the inner face of the outer section and acts as a means for holding the inner section from shifting` member hinged to the bottom of said inner section and normally secured within said outer sectionand capable when released to swing through said opening to provide a trough, said member having a pair of protiiberances abutting against the front wall of the outei' section to arrest outward movement of said member, and a container mounted in the top of said outer vsection and against the upper end of the inner section for maintaining the latter in the foi'merand providing a receptacle for burnt match sticks.
2. A receptacle for the purpose set forth comprising an outer and an inner section, the latter of less length than-the former' and in the form of a tray, said outer section having the lower portion of its front provided with an opening, a trough forming member hinged to the bottom of .said inner section and normally secured within said outer section and capable when released to swing through said opening to provide a trough, said member having a. pair of protuberances abutting against the frontwall of the outer section to ai'rest loutward movement of said member, and a container mounted in the top of said outer section and against the upper end ofthe inner section for mainy taining the latter in the former and providing a receptacle for burnt match sticks, said container having a lining of asbest-os.
3. A receptacle for the purpose set forth comprising an .outer and an inner section, the latter of less-length than the former and in the form of a tray, said outer section having the lower portion of its front provided with an opening, a trough forming member hinged to the bottom of said inner section and normally secured within said outer section and capable when released to swing through said opening to provide a trough, said member having a 4pair ofprotuberances abutting against the front wall of the outer section to arrest outward movement of said member, and 'a container mounted in the top of said outer section and against the upper end of the inner section for maintaining the latter' in the former and providing a receptacle for burnt match sticks, and metallic reinforcements for said protuberances.
4. A receptacle for the purpose set forth comprising an outer and an inner section, the latter of less length than the former and in the form of a tray, said outer section having the lower portion of its front provided with an opening, a trough forming member hinged to the bottom of said inner section and normally secured within said outer section and capable whenreleased to swing through said opening to provide a trough, said member having a pair of protuberances abutting against the front wall of the outer section to arrest outward movement of said member, and a container mounted in the top of said outer section and against the upper end of the inner' section for maintaining the latter in the former and providing a receptacle for burnt match sticks, said container having a` lining of asbestos, and metallic reinforcements for said protuberances. l l
