Z'o all whom t may concern j Be it known that I, EDWINF. HARDEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the countyL of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in- '.Appliances for Light, Heat, and Massage Treatment, of

which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful device whereby the person may be simultaneously massaged, treated with radiant heat,

'and also, with penetrating light rays, and

my object is to provide a novel device 'of this character which is simple in construction and operation, well adapted for the purpose intended, and which can be manufactured at small cost.

The device can be used to advantage in treating various complaints, such, for instance, as improper circulation of the blood, neuralgia, headache, indigestion, lumbagosciatica, nervousness, etc.

Figs. 5 and 6 are enlarged details of different forms of applicators adapted to be used in connection with the invention.

In carrying out the invention, I employ a parabolic ,reflectorl adapted to concentrate light and heat rays upon a comparatively limited area of the person. Said reector 1 has a lamp socket 2 provided with a c'able 3, adapted to communicate with a suitable source of electricity. In practice the free end of the cable 3 is, preferably, provided with a plug, not shown, whereby it may be connected to an ordinary incandescent lamp socket. l a

Said lamp 5 is of sufficient power to cast rays of light and heat of such degree as to prove beneficial in the treatment of the complaints above enumerated and such others as usually respond to treatment of this character.

As said bridge 7 is at times subjected to considerable pressure it is desirable to firmly secure it to the reflector 1, so the opposite sides of the latter are notched as indicated at 8 to receive shoulders 9 on the ends of the bridge, which has rearwardly-extending lugs l0 with threaded holes to receive screws 12, extending through opposite sides of the reflector l to secure'said bridge thereto.

As indicated by Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, the intermediate portion of the bridge member 7 is comparatively narrow and projects forwardly beyond the front edge of the reiector 1 to obstruct as little as possible the light and heat rays projected from the lamp 5 by said reflector In Figs. '1 and 2, the bridge member 7 is provided with an applicator in the form of a roller 14 consisting, preferably, of 0soft rubber and adapted more particularly for massaging the body. As disclosed by Fig. 4, it will be seen that the vbridge 7 has a central opening 19 adaptj ed to receive the threaded stem 20 of any of the applicators 21, 22 and 23 which may be readily substituted for each other when desired. As the applicators 21 and 23 are made, preferably, of soft rubber, a shield in the form of a disk 16a is inter osed between such applicators and the bridge 7, to prevent the heat and light rays from the lamp 5 striking said applicators and possibly damaging the same. f

the combination with an electric lamp and a reflector for projecting the light and heat rays from said lamp, of a rubber applicator, means for supporting said applicator in front of the reflector, and a shield for protecting the 'applicator from the light and heat rays.
