AUGUSTE JEAN BAPTISTE LAUSSEDAT, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOB TO LA SOCIETE LA CELLOPHANE, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1917.
Application filed March 16, 1916. I Serial N0. 84,741.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTE JEAN BAP- rrsrn LAUSSEDAT, engineer, resident of Paris, France, (post-office address 16 Rue du Louvre,) have invented a new and useful Label for Bottles and other Receptacles, which label is fully set forth in the following specification.
The invention relates to a label made of cellophane, provided with a case for holding an object, for bottles and other receptacles of any kind and for all purposes.
In order to make the following specification as clear as possible, reference is made to the accompanying drawings:
Figure l shows an entirely unfolded label;
Fig. 2 is an unfolded label upon which the object-case is formed;
Fig.3 shows a label, with the object-case,
in its proper position on a bottle.
The label according to the invention is essentially formed out of a sheet or band of cellophane a, provided, at one of its ends, with a tongue 5 and a slit 0 (Fig. 1). By inserting the tongue b through the slit 0, as shown on Fig. 2, a kind of case is formed which is capable of holding an object; the label a with its object-case 0r holder is then fixed, by any suitable means, on the bottle or receiver 6.
It is understood that the case d can be made of different shapes according to the nature of the object which it is to hold, the main purpose of the invention being to make easier the delivery of any object or implement which is necessarily used in the application, or in the consumption of the material or substance contained in the receptacle, and principally to make easier for the buyer the use of that material or substance, by the fact the buyer receives the label itself together with a case or holder for the said implement-which latter, consequently, will be out of contact with any matter which it may pollute or by which it may be polluted. As an example, the implement may be (as shown'on Fig. 3) a hairpencil, in the case where the label is applied on a bottle containing some product which requires a hair-pencil or brush for the application of tincture of iodin and other pharmaceutics, or of various dyes, etc. It will be a spoon in the case of a mustardot, a pen-holder in the case of an inkstan etc., and, generally it will be the object or implement which is needed for using the substance contained in the bottle or receptacle, or again the object which is needed for opening the said receptacle, etc. The case may be formed also to hold the stopper (glass, cork or other material) of a bottle, or a small syringe, a dose measuring apparatus, etc.; in fact it is useless to specify more of the many and various practical. uses to which it may be put.
The label-can be either transparent or opaque, with or without a color, with or without written or printed matter or drawings; if transparent and without printed matter or drawings, it will leave visible any mark, lettering, vignette or measure produced in the manufacturing of the receptacle (particularly in the case of glass bottles); besides,
the cellophane label could be put over some other label previously fitted on the bottle or receiver, or a label bearing drawings, printed matter and the like could be stuck on the cellophane one.
It will be understood that the label ac- .cording to the invention can be fixed in place by means of an adhesive substance or .in any other suitable manner, and can be made of any other material than cellophane.
Claim:
A labelfor bottles and other receptacles, comprising a strip or band of sheet'material provided at one end with a tongue, and having a transverse slit formed in it close to said tongue, through which slit the tongue is inserted so as to roll up the portion of the strip between the tongue and slit and thereby forin a permanent, tubular, transverselydisposed case or holder for carrying an implement to be used in connection with the contents of the bottle; said strip, with its case or holder, adapted to be wound around and pasted flat against the said bottle.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing -witnesses.
