To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, PETER MORA, a sub- ]ect of the King of Italy, residing at Clinton, in the county of Vermilion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Acetylene-Lamps, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in acetylene lamps.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an acetylene lamp adapted for burning gas generated by carbid, a pilot light being arranged for initially starting the main burner, a single moisture recepe tacle being provided for the pilot light and burner.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an acetylene gas generator having a single burner supplied with gas under regulation from a plurality of carbid holders of dierent dimensions, a singlewater tank being provided for said holders, the supply of water to the latter being individually controlled.
A still further, object of the device is the provision of a gas generator having a water holder and two separable carbid holders all compactly arranged whereby a single burner isprovided with from either or both of said holders. i

The present lamp broadly consists of a water receptacle 1 0 arranged Vat the top thereof and havino' a burner 11 arranged at one side thereof a apted'to be supplied with a combustible gas yfrom a main'container 1 2 and an auxiliary container 13 arranged beneath the receptacle 10 and supplied with water from the latter under suitable regulation.
An inverted bowl-shaped casing 14: is carried by the bottom 15l of the receptacle 10 extending partly within the said receptacle while a sleeve 16 depends axially within the casing 14. A water supply tube 17 extends through the sleeve 16 communicating with the interior of the receptacle 10 and provided with a valve seat 18 upon its upper end while the lower end of the tube 17 is arranged within the main container 12.
A. tubular valve 19 extends through the receptacle 10 having screw-threaded attachw ment with a bushing 20 in the upper side of the receptacle whereby the lower end of the valve 19 is readily adjusted with respect to the valve seat 18 under the control of a turn handle 21 at theouter end of the valve exteriorlyv of the receptacle. A feed wire 22 for the water formed of flexible material is longitudinally shiftably arranged through the valve 19 and the tube 17 whereby the passage through the said valve and tube may be readily cleaned, it being understood that byV elevating 4the valve 19 the water is allowed to pass from the receptacle through the valve seat 18 and tube 17 into the main container 12, the relative diameters of the wire 12 and tube 17 being so formed as to accommodate such passage for the water without allowing gas from the container 12 to escape through the said pipe 17.
A water feed pipe 23 is provided in the sleeve 16 communicating with the receptacle 10 and terminating at 24: opening into the auxiliary container 25 adapted to be positioned upright within the easing 14, as best 16 and arranged with a port 33 adjacenty the toV end 24 of the water pipe 23. The auxiliary container 25 has a bottom opening 34 adapted for receiving the tube 17 when the auxiliary container is operatively positioned, a
packing disk 34 being then slidably arranged over the tube 17 which latter extends through the lcentral bore 35 of the disk while an exteriorly threaded boss 36 is carried by the said disk having threaded engagement with the interior of the sleeve 16. An annular bead 37 is provided upon the auxiliary container 25 adapted for supporting a washer 38 between the said bead and an annular shoulder 39 of the casing 14, which taken together with the packing disk 34 seals the auxiliary container 25 within theV casing 14 against all communication excepting with the water pipe 23 and a curved burner tube 40 carried by the top of the casing 14 forming a part of the aforementioned burner 11. Lugs 41 are carried by the bottom of the disk 34 whereby the disk may be tightly seated against the bottom of the auxiliary receptacle and it will be noted that the upper free end of the tubular portion 32 of the guide 31 has a tight frictional engagement with the sleeve 16 while guide ears 42 and a depending flange 43 of the auxiliary container 25 are adapted Jfor the accommodati'on of the packing disk 34.
The main container 12V has a tubular ange 44 adapted for threaded engagement with a lower extension 45 of the casing 14 and whereby the said main container issep cured to the said casing beneath the auxiliary container 25, a flexible packing 46 being preferably arranged between the said extension and flange. A hinged inlet door 47 is carried by the top of the receptacle 10 whereby a supply of water Vsuch as 48 is maintained within the said receptacle. The gas conducting pipe 40 of the burner 1 1 has an outlet nippley 48 adjacent the forward side 49 of the receptacle while a protecting annulus 50 is carried lby the said side surrounding the burner. A gas conducting passage 51is .provided between the main container 12l and a burner pipe 40fwith which it communicates7 such passage being arranged through an elbow y5 2 beneath theV annulus 50 and receptacle 10. suitable straining medium 54 may be arranged in the burner pipe 40 if desired while Ya-*handle 55 is providedy upon the rear end of the receptacle 10. It is understood that a supply `or' carbid 56 is arranged within the 'auxiliary container 25 while carbid 27 is also positioned withiny the main container 12. By opening the needle valve 26 some of thefwater 48 passes into the auxiliary container and the gas generated thereby passes through the burner tube 4() and nipple 48 where the same may be lighted within the annulus 50. rlhe supply of gas from the said auxiliary container 25 will continue to be fed to the burner 11 until exhausted under the regulation of the water supply needle valve 26, such supplyV being maintained as a small pilot light if desired. lVater iromthe receptacle 10 is allowed to pass through the tube 17 into the carbid 57 of the main container 12 suitably regulated A by the tubular valve 19 and the gas so generated passes through the conduit Y51 to the burner tube 40 under the regulation of the pin valve 53, it being understood that such gas will be lighted by the pilot light when passing through the nipple 48 as such gas from the main container augmente that passing from the auxiliary container. After the main supply of gas is lighted, the needle valve 26 may be closed for discontinuing the generation of gas in the auxiliary container 25 or such supply may be continued Y from the auxiliary container regulated by the said needle valve and in which event the carbid in both containers will be supplying gas to the burner 11. An acetylene burner is provided in which a small pilot may be maintained constantly burning if desired, itY
being understood that upon closing the pin or valve 53, the gas from the auxiliary container 25 still remains lighted while the device may also be employed for the, generation of gas from the two containers either successively or simultaneously.
What I claim as new is:-
1. An acetylene gas llamp comprising a water receptacle, an inverted bowl-shaped casing arranged within the bottom of said receptacle, a sleeve axially arranged within said casing, a watersupply pipe terminating Y within said sleeve communicating with said receptacle, a guide member having a tubular portion rictionally arranged over the said sleeve and having an outlet port communicating with the open end ofthe said pipe, an auxiliary container arranged within the said casing, a packing disk engaging the said container threaded into the said sleeve,`
a needle'valveext'ending through the said receptacle having its lower end movably arranged within the said pipe, a turn knob upon the upper end of the said valve, a curved gas outiet tube carried by the Said casing extending through the said receptacle projecting exteriorly thereof.
2. An acetylene gas lamp comprising a water receptacle, an inverted bowl-shaped casing arranged Within thc bottom of Said receptacle, a sleeve axially arranged Within said casing, a water supply pipe terminating within said sleeve communicating with Said receptacle, a guide member having a tubular portion frictionally arranged over the said Sleeve and having an outlet port communieating With'tlie open-'end of the said pipe, an auxiliary container arranged Within the said easing, a packing disk engaging the said container threaded into the said Sleeve, a needle valve extending through the Said receptacle having its lower end movably arranged within the said pipe, a turn knob upon the upper end ol the said valve, a curved gas outlet tube carried by the said casing extending through the said receptacle projecting exteriorly thereot, a protecting annulus carried by the said receptacle surrounding the projecting free end of the burner tube, a main container positioned in axial alinement to the said casing removably secured to the latter, a. valved gas communicating means between the said main container and said burner tube Within the annulue, and Water Supply means for the said main container.
3. An acetylene gas lamp comprising a Water receptacle, an inverted bowl-shaped casing arranged Within the bottom of said receptacle, a sleeve axially arranged Within Said casing, a Water supply pipe terminating within said sleeve communicating with said receptacle, a guide member having a tubular portion frictionally arranged over the Said sleeve and having an outlet port communi eating with the open end of the said pipe, an auxiliary container arranged Within the said casing, a packing disk engaging 4 the said container threaded into the said sleeve, a needle valve extending through the said receptacle vhaving its lower end movably arranged Within the said pipe, a turn knob upon the upper end of the Said valve, a curved gas outlet tube carried by the said casing extending through the said receptacle projecting exteriorly thereof, a protecting annulus carried by the said receptacle surrounding the projecting free end of the burner tube, a main container positioned in axial alinement to the said casing removably secured to the latter, a valved gas communicating means between the said main container and Said burner tube within the annulus, a Water tube extending through the said sleeve terminating Within the main container With its upper end forming a valve seat Within the re-` ceptacle, a tubular valve threaded to the receptacle positioned upon the said sea-t When the valve is closed, and a flexible cleaning Wire longitudinally shiftably arranged through the said tubular valve and Water supply tube of the main container.
