BLOWER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 191 '7.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA H. SPENCER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of West Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a. new and Improved Blower, of which the followin is a specification.
My invention re ates to the class of devices above named, and an object of my invention, among others, is to provide a compact device, and one in which the mechanical and electrical parts may be assembled and adjusted at the factory, thus requiring little skill in the setting up of the same.
One form of device embodying my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which' Figure l is a view in end elevation of a blower embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the same.
My invention, while not limited to a blower employed for any particular pur'- pose, is especially applicable to av blower used in connection with the playing of musical instruments'and especially pipe organs. In the playing of such instruments many dif ferent sets of pipes or organs are often employed, and the additionof each set or organ places an additional load upon the keys, requiring more power to operate them. In order to counteract this result an electrical apparatus is employed to assist in the oper ation of the keys, or reduce the power reof the organ, and in the accompanying drawings the numeral 6 indicates a support, as a floor, upon which is placed a piece 5 of nonconductingmaterial, as felt or'the like, upon which the rests 7 of the blower casing 8 are placed. A motor 9, preferably of the electric type, is secured to a base 10 within a recess in one end 11 of the blower casing,
the opposite end 12 of which contains the fans that are operated by the motor 9. A generator 13 is supported upon the same structure as the blower casing, this generator being connected as by wires 14 with a rheostat or other similar device 15, the latter being connected as by wires 16 with the electhe motor shaft 19 to a pulley on the generator shaft 20, which belt is employed to drive the generator.
' From this construction it will be seen that the apparatus, except as 'to the piping connection with the outlet 17 and the wiring connection with the wires 16, may be set up and adjusted at the factory, and that it may be placed upon the felt 5 without any bolts or other means of securing it to the floor 6, the blower casing being thus not connected with the floor by any devices that would tend to transmit the sounds to the 'trical apparatus by means of which the v,
floor and thus to places in which it is desired gllie sounds of the blowers shall not be audi- In the preferred form .of construction, and as shown herein, a supporting post 21 is secured to the base 10, extending vertically therefrom and having secured at its upper end a bearing 22 for a supporting shaft 23, the opposite end of this shaft being mounted in boxesor bearings 24 secured to the blower casing 12. A base 25 for the rheostat 15 is secured to the shaft 23, being adjustable in a rotary direction thereon. The generator 13 is secured to a generator base 26 that is secured as by means of collars 27 to the shaft 28, these collars, however, being adjustably secured in place.
From this construction it will be noted that the position of either the generator or the rheostat may be changed 1n a rotary direction or horizontally lengthwise of the shaft 23, and that these adjustments may be made independently upon the shaft 23 or collectively by movement of the shaft 23,
and the tension of the belt 18 may also be regulated by adjusting the position of the generator upon the shaft 23.
While I have shown and described herein said base and operatively connected with said motor.
2. A blower including a case with blower mechanism therein, a motor connected with the blower mechanism, a base to support said. motor, a generator'supported by said base and operatively connected with the motor, and an electrical device supported by the base and operatively connected with said generator.
- 3. A blower including a case, a base located within the case, blower mechanism supported by the base, a motor connected with the blower mechanism and supported by the base, and a generator supported by said base and operatively connected with said motor. 4
' 4. A blower including a casewith blower mechanism therein, a motor connected with the blower mechanism, a shaft secured to the blower case,'a generator secured to said shaft, and connections between said motor 'and generator.
5. A blower including a case having blower mechanism .therein, a motor connected with the blower mechanism, a shaft secured to the blower case, a generator secured to said shaft, connections between said said blower mechanism, a rest common to all of said parts to support them and comprised in the same unitary structure, a shaft mounted upon the blower case and rotatably and longitudinally adjustable in its bearings therein, a generator secured to said shaft, and connections between said motor and generator.
8.- A blower including a case with blower mechanism therein, a motor connected with the blower mechanism, a supporting post vertically arranged, a shaft having a bearing in said-post, a generator secured to said shaft, a connection between the generator and motor, and a rest common to all of said parts to support them and comprised in the same unitary structure.
9. A blower including a case with blower mechanism therein, a motor connected with the blower mechanism, a supporting post rising from and supported by the blower case, a shaft having a bearing in said post, a generator secured to said shaft, connections between the generator and motor, and a rest common to all of said parts to support them and comprised in the same unitary structure.
10. A blower including a case with blower mechanism therein, a motor base supported by the case, a motor supported on said base, a supporting post rising from said motor base, a shaft having a bearing in said post, a, generator secured tovsaid shaft, and a connection between said generator and motor.
11. A blower including a case with blower mechanism therein, a motor connected with the blower mechanism, a supporting post vertically arranged, a shaft having one end supported at the upper end of said post and its opposite end resting in bearings on the motor case, a generator secured to said shaft, a connection between the generator and motor, and a rest common to all of said parts to support them and comprised in the same unitary structure.
