Description

W. M. BRADSHAW & W. G. MYLIUS.
ELECTRICAL MEASURING INSTRUMENT,
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 28, I913.
1,226,056.n Patented May 15, 1917.
reason of the well known fact that a closed circuited conductor will have a voltage induced in it when embraced by varying magnetic lines of force, will set up magnetic lines of force around the same. The magnetic lines of force produced by the currents in the conductors 6 will oppose the magnetic lines of force traversing the electromagnetic member, and will cause the lines of force traversing the air gaps to be shifted in direction or the number of lines of force traversing one air gap to lag behind the number of lines of force traversing the other, thus increasing the speed of the rotating member at light loads to overcome the retardation of the same by reason of friction in its bearings,
Although the specific form of construction shown has been found highly efi'ective and is that which is preferred-it is obvious that modifications thereof may be made within the spirit of the invention, and we desire to include all such modifications within the scope of the appended claims.
We claim as our invention:
1. In an electrical measuring instrument, the combination with a magnetizable core having a central. member and side members spaced from-each other at one end by air gaps, of two closed-circuit conductors comprising sides movable respectively in the said air gaps, sides having polygonal openings, and sides having circular openings, and bolts having polygonal heads for engaging said polygonal openings for adjusting the positions of the sides of the conductors in the said air gaps.
2. In an electrical measuring instrument, the combination with a magnetizable core having a central member and side members spaced from each other at one end by air gaps, of two closed-circuit conductors comprising sides movable respectively in the said air gaps, sides having polygonal openings, and sides having circular openings, bolts having polygonal heads for engaging said polygonal openings for adjusting the positions of the sides of the conductors in the said-air gaps, and means for clamping both sides of the said closed-circuit conductors to the said bolts.
3. in an electrical measuring instrument,
the combination with a laminatedmagnet izable core having a central member and side members spaced from each other at one end by air gaps, of two closed-circuit conductors comprising sides movable respectively in said air gaps, sides having polygonal openings, and sides having circular openings, and means for engaging said polygonal openings for adjusting the positions of the sides of the conductors in the said air gaps.
l. In an electrical measuring instrument,
the-combination with a laminated magnetizable core having a central member and side members spaced from each other at one end by air gaps, of two closed-circuit conductors comprising sides movable respectively in said air gaps, sides having polygonal openings, and bolts having means for engaging said polygonal openings to adjust the positions of the sides of the conductors in the said air gaps.
5. In an electrical measuring instrument, the combination with a laminated magnetizable core having a central member and side members spaced from each other at one end by air gaps, of two closed-circuit conductors comprising sides movable respectively in said air gaps, sides having polygonal openings, and sides having circular openings, two bolts constituting means for pivotallymounting said closed circuit conductors, means for adjusting the relative positions of the sides of the conductors in the said air gaps, and means for securing the laminae of said magnetizable core together.
6. In an electrical measuring instrument, the combination with a laminated magnetizable member of a plurality of closedcircuit conductors severally comprising a side having a polygonal. opening and a side having a circular opening, a bolt for engaging said openings, means associated with said. bolt forsecuring the laminae of said magnetizable member together, means for clamping both sides of said closed-circuit conductor to said bolt, and means for re-' taining said closed-circuit conductor in any given position.
7. A. closed-circuit conductor constructed of sheet metal and comprising parallel sides, one of which has a circular opening therein and the opposite one of which" has a polygonal opening and a slot therein, the other sides being substantially in the same plane and at right angles to the sides having the openings therein.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto subscribed our names this 18th day of Nov.
