Description

v H. F. ELLARD.
CONVEYER CABLE 0R ROPE. APPLICATION FILED MAR-29 I9I5.
1,225,020. I Patented May 8, 1917 I the manner of using a conveyer employing ably formed of strands of the rope or HUGH F. ELLARD, 0F MISSOULA, MONTANA.
CONVEYER CABLE OR ROPE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH F. ELLARD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 542 South Third street, west, in the city of Missoula, in the county of Missoula and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Conveyor Cable or Hope, of which the following is a specification.
My invention contemplates simple and eflicient means for transmitting loads by conveyer ropes or cables, having especial rei:' erence to such as employ a trailrope connected at one of its ends to the cable and at its other end to the log or other load to be conveyed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows an ordinary conveyer rope or cable to which the, feature. of my invention may be applied. Figs. top and edge views of one of the eyelets. Fig. is a detail View of one of the loops and Fig. 5 a detail of the swivel connection between the cable sections. Fig. 6 shows my invention.
As illustrated, the cable 1 is equipped with a series of loops, as 2, which are preten other material of which the cable is made. These may be disposed at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the cable, as at 3, or they may be disposed parallel thereto as at 1. I provide each of the loops with a metallic eyelet 5 to maintain the loop as,against wear. These are preferably woven into the cable. At the end of eadh section the cable is provided with a link 6 connecting it with a swivel 7 which in turn is attached to a second section of cable 8.
9 designates the trail rope. It is shown attached to a load, as 10. The trail rope Specification of Letters Patent.
2 and 8 are, respectively,
Patented May 8, 1917.
Application filed March 29, 1915. Serial No. 17,910.
may be formed with loops 12- having eyelets similar to those described, and the finger link 13 connecting the trail rope to loop 4 of the cable may be like that shown and claimed in my pending application for patent. Serial No. 17,909, filed March 29,- 1915, or it may be any other appropriate device permitting of ready attachment and release.
The principal advantages of my invention are that a positive connection is providcd between the trail rope and, the cable thus preventing the trail rope from slipping along the cable. The security of the connection is materially aided by the eyelets 5. However irregular may be the course over which (he cable has to travel it will not become twisted owing to the swivel connections T by which the sections of the cable are connectedso that the trail rope will always maintain/the same relation to the cable and it will exert a steady and even pull upon the load. The tendency of a trail'rope to wind up around the conveyer cable is thus eiiectively prevented.
1 claim as my invention:
1. In a cable conveyena cable having intel'nudiato its ends a loop formed of strands olits own material, an eyelet in said loop, and a trail rope adapted for attachment to a load and secured to said loop.
'2. In a cable conveyor, a cable comprising a series of sections, each having a plurality of loops throughout itslength, swivel connections between said sections, anda trail rope adapted for attachment at one of its ends to any of said loops and at its other end to a load.
