Be it known that I, ROBERT B. I'IOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Yakima, in the cunty of Yakima ancl State of Washington, hzwe inventecl certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Nail-Distributers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art t0 Which it appertains to make ancl use the same.
Tlns invention relates te nail distributers.
The object of this imention is to provide a nail .clistributer of this character in which are embclied a carrier, a hopper hingedly secureclin the carrier, a chute pivotally associated to the hopper, and means for supporting the lower end of the chute in the carrier and nail supp0rting guideways connected to the chute.ancl to the supportirg means whereby the nails may be 'ed from the hopper int0the guicleways and readily ancl quickly taken thereirom.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 clesignates the box Which comprises in its construction the upper section 2 and the lower section 3. The lowcr section 3 comprises the bottom Wall 1 and sicle walls 5 and the frnt wall 6 and rear wall 7. The upper eclges of the side walls 5 are cutaway as at 8, the purpose of which Will behereinafter more 'ully describecl.
The upper section 3 comprises the top wall 9, the sicle walls 10, ront wall, 11, and the rear wall 12. The rear Wall 12 of the upper section 2 is hingeclly securecl to the rear wall 7 of the l0wer section 3 as at 13 and the edges of the sicle walls 10 are cut away near their rear encls as at 1-1 te recei e shoulders 15 '0rmd by the eutting away of the upper edges of the side walls 5.
Pivotally secured to the inner face of the side walls 5 of the lower sction 3 are the supporting arms 16, their lower encls beng pivotally secured to the inner face of the sicle walls 5 as at 17 and their front eclges are proviclecl near their upper ends with the inwarclly extencling opei1ings 18, which openings are arrangecl in direct alinement with each other the purpose of Which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

A hopper 25 is hingedly secured to the lower inner eclge of the front wall 11 of the upper section 2 as at 26 and comprises in its eonstrction the bottom wall 27 the side. walls 28, the rear wall 29. The front eclge being fully open as at 30. The extreme front edge of the bottom wall 27 of the hopper 25 is rollecl back up0n itself as at 31 to. provide a hinge receiving barrel, the purpose of which Will be mnre ully hereinafter described.
A rectangnlar ehute 32 comprises a bottom wa1l 33, and side Wall 34, and a front Wall 35. The bottom wall 33 of the chute 32 is provided With a series of spaced longitudinally extending guide openings 36, Which guicle opehings define upturned tongue members 37 which are aclapted t0 secure the inverted V-shapecl partitions 38 therein. The extreme enter opposite longituclinally extendingguicle openings 36 ha"e their opposite encls bent back upon themselves ancl inclinecl upwardly as at 39 and then extend vertically ancl parallel with the sic1e Walls 34 of the ehute member and are arranged in abutting engagement therewith as elearly shown at 40. Secured transversely across the upper edges of the sicle walls of the chute near the rear enl thereo is a me'tal strap 41, which strap has its opp0site ends bent downwarclly as at 42 ancl arrangecl t0 abut the exterior of the side wa1ls 34 of the chute t0 yieldably forse the sicle walls inwardly thus varying the relative size of the gi iide openings 36. A pair of b0lts 42 are arrangecl to extencl Vertically through the strap 41 and through the apex of the inverted V-shapecl partitions 38 and ha"e their lower ends extending through the bottom walls 33 and secured thereto as at 43. A pair of angle brackets 44 are securecl to the bottom Wall 33 and side walls 34 of the chute member 32 and have their encls projecting beyonebthe rear edge of the chute as clearlj] shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The vertical flanges 45 of the angle braakets 44 are provided with alinecl openings 46, the purpose of Which will be hereinafter more fully described. A seconcl pair of angle brackets 47 are securecl by their horizontal flange to the inner face of the bottom walls 33 and are locatecl between the leg portions of the inx erted V-shaped parti tions 38 and their forward ends extend beyond the rear eclge or the chute member 32 as clearly shown at 46' in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
The vertical flanaes of the angle brackets 47 are provided with openings which are adaptecl to aline with the openings 46 of the first mentionecl angle brackets 45. An adjusting bar 49 is arranged through the openings 46 ancl 46 of the angle brackets 44 and 47 and is provided with the screw threadecl portions at opposite ends and designated 50. The opposite end of the bar 49 is provided W1th Wingel nuts 5l Which wing nuts are aclapted t0 abut one faee of the angle brackets 44, the purpose of Whieh -will be hereinafter more fully described.
One end of the bar 49 is provided with the wing nut 52 which is adapted t0 abut the flange 46 of the angle brackets 47 thus it Will be understood that upon adjusting the thumb nuts 51 and 52, the sizes of the openings 36 of the ehute member 32 may be regulatecl as alearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
Secured transversely across the side walls of the chute near the front wall thereof and near the upper edges of the same is a pivot bar 30 which is adaptecl t0 extencl transversely through the barrel 31 and the front eclge of the bottom Wall 27 01 the hopper 25 thus hingedly securing the chute to the hopper and permitting the contents 0 the hopper 130 pass into the chute as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
A plurality of wire guides 53 are seeured by one of their encls to the uncler sicle of the ehute member 32 and extend outwardly therefrom. The guides 53 comprisea plurality of wires 53 which wires are arranged in pairs and have their inner ends diverging outwarclly and the extreme ends of the cliverging portions bent angularly as at 54 and are secured to the .bottom Wall of the chute members 33 011 opposite sides of the guide openings 36, the dite1ging portion of the guide Wires 53 permitting the nails sliding from the hopper to be readily moved downward into the guideways ancl suspended therefrom ancl 1:0 remove the nails, it Will only be neeessary 'to take the same by the thumb and iorefinger ancl move the same rearwarclly out through the diierging portions of the guideWays 53 as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
An adjusting bar 54 substantially L- shaped has its lonaer arm secured to one guidewire of each pair as at 55, and is provided with a slot 56 to permit the end of the other guidewire of each pair to extend throngh and be slidably arrangecl therein, a second bar 57 substantially L-shaped and has its longer arm secured to the ends of the free quideivire of eaeh pair and is adapted te slidably engage the enter face of the bar 54 as clearly shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
The shorter arms of the L- shaped members 54 and 57 are provided with openings through which is adapted te extend supporting bolt 58. Asupport bolt 58 is serew threacled and providecl with a wing nut 50, the purpose of Which will be hereinafter more ully clescribed.
Secured to the inner end of the bar 57 is the short arm 60 Which is arranged to re- CGV6 one end of the supporting bolt 58 therein, and the portion of the bolt located between the shorter arm of. the bar 54 and the arxn G is surrounded by a coil spring 61 which permits the wing nut 59 to be adjusteol on the bolt 58 thus varying the clistance between the wires of each par of guide Wires 53, as elearly discloseol in Fig. of the drewings.

In operation:
The upper section 21 is swung back on its hinges 13 and is arrangecl at approxi1nately right angles to the lower seetion 3 thus bringing the rods 16 into a vertical position. Tlie wing nuts 24 are tightenecl thus holding tle upper seetion 3 in L rigicl position. The chute is graspecl ancl pullecl outwzrrclly reising the hopper on its hinges 26 ancl the chute is then swung on its hinge ancl the enls of the red 58 and 58 are removably securecl in their notehes 18 in the front edges of the rocls 1G. It being understoocl that the 10ds 16 een be adjustecl by the thu1nb screws 24 permitting the rocls to be arranged at various angles whioh e.cljustment Will arrange tl1e hopper snol ehute at various angles. lVhen it is necessary to take the nails from the guicleways the operator grasps the nails by the thu1nb end forefinger and sltles I:l1e
a1ne towercl divergent portions of the Wires so that the same may be reaclily removed.
It can be renclily unclerstoocl that the guicle openings 36 and wires 53 may be acljustecl to oompensate for various sizes of nails by the adjustrnent of the winged nuts 51, 59 and 52.

Tlie wing nuts 24 are then unscrewed and the upper section forced clownwarclly into the lower seotion ancl tl1e hoek me1nber G4c is iastened around the stucl G3 thus loeking tl1e upper section against IOVGIHGHJ with relation to the lower seotion and the device may be reaclily carried to the next plaee of operation.

1. A portable nail distributer {L seetional receptaole, supporting ar1ns pivotally securecl in one section of the recepteele, links pivotally secured to the upper ends of the ar1ns and adjustably secured to the upper section, a hopper hingedly securecl to the upper section, a chute carried by the hopper, guidenmys attached to the chute ancl havnp; their forwarcl ende associated with the ar1ns, and means for acljusting the arn1s end ehute ancl hopper to various angled positions.
2. A nail clistributer comprising a receptacle including hinged sections, supporting ern1s pivotally niounted in the lower section links pivotally connectecl to the upper encls of the supporting a.r1ns and adjustably secured to the upper section, :1 hopper hingedly securecl tothe upper section ancl depencling theref'ro1n, a ol1ute hingeclly securecl to the iorward end of the hopper and comprising e plurality of nail guicleways each having a flange projecting beyond the nail guiding portion and a rocl arrangeol to ex tencl transversely through the flanges, said 10cl being arrang'ed to coperate with the flanges to -acljust tl1e width of the guideways.
3. A nail distributer comprsing 5 sectional casing, erms and links pivotally seeurecl to the sectional easing and 1neans for holding the arn1s and links in various angled positions, a hopper hingedly seoured in the casing to one section thereof, a ohute, guicleways ozrrriecl by the chute and associatecl Wth the ar1ns, and means or adjusting the hopper ancl chute at various anglecl positions with relation to one anothe'r.
4. A nail distributer comprising a hinged sectional casing, EL hopper hingeclly secured in the casing, L chute carried by the hopper, :1 plurality of gudeways carried by the chute, ancl n1eans carriecl by said casng and eoperating with the guicleways for holding the guideways, hopper and chute in verious anglecl positions With relation to one another.

A portable nal dstrbuter comprsng a sectional receptacle, supportinp; arms l0- cated in the receptacle, links car1ed by the anus ancl receptacle, a hopper hinge lly secured to one secti0n of the receptacle, a chute earred by the hopper, gudeways formed ntegrally wth the chute, nail gudng extensons 011 the gudeways, and 1neans f01 a ljustng the extensons, sad means adapted to support the chute and hopper in "arous angled postons.

A nal clistrbuter comprsing a sectonal casng, a hopper hingedly secured in the casng, a chute assocated wth the hopper, sad chue provcled wth a pluralty of relat"ely spacecl longtudinally extendng slots in ts bottom, a strap securecl across tlie sde walls of the chute, angled brackets secured to the bottom wall of the chute, means extendng through the angled brackets 0r varyng the s'1ze of the sl0ts, gudeways carred by the chute, anol means associatecl wth the gudeways for supportng the chute ancl hopper in varous angled pestons in one section of the casng.
