JOHN W. HART, 0F MOBILE, ALABAMA.
DEVICE EOE CLEANING coMEs.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 20, 191 '7.
Application filed June 16, 1916. Serial No. 104,065.
To all 'whom t may concern.' Be it known that I, JOHN W. HART, a citizen of the United States, -residing at Mobile, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented certain new andv useful Improvements 1n Devices for Cleaning Combs; and I do hereby declare .the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others Skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this s'pecication. This invention relates to new and useful l improvements in the construction of combs parent during the course of the following 30 description. y p
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specilication, in which like numerals are used to indicate like'parts throughout the specification and in which:
Figurel is a side elevation of a comb constructed in accordance with my invention, the cleaning element being removed.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2v of F ig. 1, and Fig. 3 is av detail view of a portion of the cleaning-element.
In the drawing, 5 designates the back or f Abody of comb having suitably 'constructed teeth 6. The back 5 of the comb is recessed as at 7 to provide a pocket or retaining chamber for the cleaning element shown more'particularly in Fig. 3.
As clearly shown in Fig. element comprises aback 9 which is provided on one of its sides with a 'spring member 10 3, the cleaning f which frictionally engages one of the side walls of the recess 7 for normally holding the cleaning element in place therein. 4Teeth 1'1 are formed on the cleaning element,`these teeth being arranged throughout the length of the back 9 and along one edge thereof in such spaced relation with each other that the space between the teeth of the cleaning element will be equal to the thickness of the teeth of the comb with which it is employed, thereby insuring the cleaning of the comb when the cleaning element is moved along the teeth of the comb during the cleaning operation thereof.
It will be noted upon referring to the drawings that, when the cleaning element is adjusted in the pocket in the comb, the outer end of the element will be flush with the back of the comb andE filling the entire pocket, the struckup portion of the elementl y serving to frictionally hold the same inplace. While I have shown the preferred form of my invention, it will, of course, be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes as I may deem necessary within the scope of the claim.
In the operation ofithe device, it will be seen that the cleaning element may be readily removed from the comb, the cleaning-teeth 11 thereof moved between the teeth ofthe comb with the result that all foreign sub1 stances are removed therefrom. .What I claim to be new is A comb provided with a pocket, a comb y tooth cleaning element adapted to be carried by said pocket and having a portion of the upper rear edge thereof bentV laterally and .adapted to engage one wall of saidpocket -and adapted to hold one face of the'element frictionally against the opposite wall of the pocket, the outer-edge of the element being Hush with the back of the com In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
