To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. SoovrLn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Joggers for Printing-Presses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sheet j oggers for printing presses.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved sheet jogger for printing presses adapted for use as an attachment for various types of machines now in use.
Second, to provide an improved sheet jogger for printing presses which may be quickly put into operative position and adjusted to the machine.
Third, to provide an improved sheet jogger adapted when used in pairs to jog or square up the sheets on all sides.
Fourth, to provide an improved sheet jogger which is simple and economical and at the same time durable in use.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow. 7
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the piling table of a printing press and 2 a reciprocating part of the sheet delivery mechanism thereof. On this reciprocating part 2, I mount a bracket 3 having an actuating roller I for my improved sheet jogger.
My improved sheet jogger comprises a frame preferably rectangular and formed of sheet metal. Within this frame and transversely thereof are ways 6 for the slides 7 of the jogger blade 8, this jogger blade being thus supported to reciprocate at the front of the frame to engage the edges of the sheets as they are piled on the table by the delivery mechanism jogging or squaring them up.
The frame is provided with a series of teeth 9 on its under side adapted to engage the table. These teeth may be in the form of a rubber pad with corrugations, the 0bject being to hold the frame in its adjusted position on the table without necessity of attaching or clamping the same thereto.
The frame is provided with a forwardly projecting plate over which the jogger blade 8 reciprocates, the jogger plate being recessed at 11 to receive the blade, see Fig.

XIII. This plate 10 is adapted to support the sheets so that all the first sheets are efiectively engaged by the jogger blade.
The jogger blade slides 7 are provided with racks 12 on their upper sides and these racks are engaged by the pinions 13 carried by the shaft 13 arranged longitudinally of the frame and having bearings in the end thereof. This shaft 13 is actuated by the racks 1 1 carried by the actuating bar 15 which is provided with a cam bar 16, the cam bar being adjustably mounted on the actuating bar. The racks 1 1 are mounted to reciprocate in suitable vertical ways 17 supported by the frame, as best shown in Figs. II and V. Stops 18 are provided to limit the upward stroke of the racks 14. hen the racks 1 1 are forced downwardly by the actuation of the actuating bar 15, as through its cam bar 16 and actuating roller 1, the rock shaft 13 is rotated and pinions 18 thereon coacting with racks 12 retract the jogger plate 8. When the actuating bar is released by the passing of the roller from the cam bar, the springs 19 actuate the jogger blade on its outstroke. These springs 19 are connected at one end to the front part of the frame and at their other ends to a rod 20 extending between the slides 7 (see Figs. II, III and VIII).
To provide means for adjusting the cam bar 16 to machines of different size, the cam bar is adjustably mounted on the actuating bar 15, the cam bar being provided with rods 21 telescoping with the tubular members 22 on the actuating bar 15. These tubular members are arranged through the supporting brackets 23 for the slide bearings 17 of the racks 1-1 (see Figs. II and IV). The rods 21 are secured to the actuating bar in their adjusted position by the set screws 24:.
With the parts thus arranged, the reciprocation of the sheet delivery member 2 actuates the actuating bar and through the connections described, retracts the jogger On the return movement of the sheet delivery member 2, the actuating bar 15 is released and the jogger plate .is actuated by its springs to jog up the sheets.
To jog up the ends of the sheets, I provide end jogging blades 25 which are slidably mounted on the bracket extensions 26 of the frame, the extensions 26 being adjustably mounted on. brackets 27 mounted at the ends of the main frame. These bracket member extensions have registering slots 28 and 29, clamping screws 30 being provided to hold theextensions in their ad justed position on the brackets.
The end jogging plates 25 are carried by slides 31 reciprocating in the slots 29 (see Figs. IX and XI). The end jogger blades are actuated by the pitman 32 which has a telescoping slide 32 adjustably secured by the screw 2. The slides 31 are secured to the telescoping slides 32 by the pins 53 carried by the coupling 3a on the telescoping slide 32, this coupling being adj ustably secured upon the telescoping slide by the set screws The inner ends of the pitman are connected to the crank members 36 on the shafts 37 and connected by the links 88 to the actuating bar 15. Thus when the actuating bar is actuatet, the end jogger blades are carried outwardly or to their retracted positions simultaneously with the retracting of the side jogger blades and when the actuating bar is released, the end jogger blades are actuated by means of springs 19 and the connections described. The device being adapted to be adjustably positioned on the table or tray may be adjusted to the proper position for jogging up the side edges of the sheets, while the end jogger blades may be readily adjusted to the dimensions of the sheets for jogging up the ends thereof, the term side and ends being used as relative terms in relation to the press proper.
In practice, the devices are used in pairs, being positioned oppositely. The cam bar 16 is provided with cams ateach end so that the device may be positionedon either side. I have used the term table in its broad sense and'have in mind that paper is frequently piled on trays or the like.
My improved sheet jogger is adapted for use on the table proper or on trays or otherwise, as may be desired. My improved sheet jogging machine is adapted to be used. as an attachment for various printing machines now in use, little change or addition being required to adapt the same thereto.
I have not attempted to illustrate or describe various modifications which I contemplate as being desirable under certain conditions, as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as circumstances may require.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame, a side jogger blade, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided. with racks, an actuating spring, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to rcciprof cate vertinlly, a shaft disposed longitudinally of said frame and provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, a cam member adjustably mounted on said actuating bar to coact with said actuating member, a pair of end jogger blades, slides for said end ogger blades, pitmen connected to said slides, a pair of crank members to which said pitmen are connected mounted on said frame, and links connecting said crank members to said. actuating bar whereby the end jogger blades are actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
2. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a side jogger blade, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided with racks, an actuating spring, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to reciprocate vertically, a shaft disposed longitudinally of said frame and provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, a pair of end jogger blades, slides for said end jogger blades, pitmen connected to said slides, a pair of crank members to which said pitmen are connected mounted on said frame, and links connecting said crank members to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blades are actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a side jogger blade, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided with racks, an actuating spring, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to reciprocate vertically, a shaft disposed longitudinally of said frame and pr0- vided with pinions coacting with said, jogger blade and actuating bar racks, a pair of end jogger blades, supporting brackets therefor mounted on said frame and provided with adjustable members, slides for said end jogger blades mounted on the adjustable members of said brackets, pitmen adjustably connected to said slides, a pair of crank members to which said pitmen are connected mounted on said frame, and links connecting said crank members to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blades are actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
4. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a side jogger blade, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided with racks, an actuating spring, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to reciprocate vertically, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, an end jogger blade, a supporting bracket therefor mounted on said frame and provided with adjustable members, a slide for said end jogger blade mounted on the adjustable member of said bracket, a pitman adjustably connected to said slide, a crank mem ber to which said pitman is connected mounted on said frame, and a link connecting said crank member to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blade is actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a side jogger blade, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided with racks, an actuating spring, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to reciprocate vertically, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, an end jogger blade, a slide for said end jogger blade, a pitman connected to said slide, a crank member to which said pitman is connected mounted on said frame, and a link connecting said crank member to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blade is actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
6. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating side jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuating bar provided with a rack, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, a pair of end jogger blades, adjustable supports therefor mounted on said frame, slides for said end jogger blades mounted on said adjustable supports, pitmen adjustably connected to said slides, a pair of crank mem bers to which said pitmen are connected mounted on said frame, and links connecting said crank members to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blades are actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
7. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating side jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuating bar provided with a rack, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, a pair of end jogger blades, slides for said end jogger blades, pitmen adjustably connected to said slides, a pair of crank members to which said pitmen are connected mounted on said frame, and links connecting said crank members to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blades are actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
8. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating side jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuating bar provided with a rack, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with. said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, a pair of end jogger blades, adjustable supports therefor mounted on said frame, slides for said end jogger blades mounted on said adj ustable supports, pitmen connected to said slides, a pair of crank members to which tending said pitmen are connected mounted on said frame, and links connecting said crank members to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blades are actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
9. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating side jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuating bar provided with a rack, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, an end jogger blade, an adjustable support therefor, a slide for said end ogger blade mounted 011 said adjustable support, a pitman'adjustably connected to said slide, a crank member to which said pitman is connected mounted on said frame, and a link connecting said crank member to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blade is actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
10. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating side jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuatin bar provided with a rack, a shaft provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, an end jogger blade, a slide for said end jogger blade mounted on said adjustable support, a pitman connected to said end jogger blade, a crank member to which said pitman is connected mounted on said frame, and a link connecting said crank member to said actuating bar whereby the end jogger blade is actuated simultaneously with the side jogger blade.
11. In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member ac tuated therewith, the combination of a frame provided with a forwardly projecting sheet supporting plate, a jogger blade reciprocating above said sheet supporting plate and recessed to receive the same, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided with racks, a rod extending between said racks, actuating springs connected to the frame and to said rod, a shaft disposed longitudinally of said frame and provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating bar racks, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to reciprocate vertically, and a cam member adjustably mounted on said actuat ing bar to coact with said. actuating member.

In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame, a jogger blade, supporting slides for said jogger blade mounted in ways on said frame and provided with racks, a rod exbetween said racks, actuating springs connected to the frame and to said rod, a shaft disposed longitudinally of said frame and provided with pinions coacting with said jogger blade and actuating; bar racks, an actuating bar provided with racks disposed to reciprocate vertically, and a cam member adjustably mounted on said actuating bar to coact with said actuating member.

In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet deliverv means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame provided with a forwardly projecting sheet supporting plate, a reciprocating jog ger blade mounted to reciprocate at the front of the frame over the said sheet supporting plate thereof and recessed to receive the same and provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said jogger blade, an actuating bar with which said actuating member coacts provided with arack, and a shaft provided with pinions meshing with said jogger blade and said actuating bar racks.

In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a joggeractuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuating bar with which said actuating member coacts provided with a rack, and a shaft provided with pinions meshing with said jogger blade and said actuating bar racks.

In a structure of the class described, includin a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating side jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said jogger blade, an actuating bar with which said actuating member coacts provided with a rack, a shaft provided with pinions meshing with said jogger blade and said actuating bar racks, an end jogger blade mounted to reciprocate transversely of said side jogger blade, and operating connections from said end jogger blade to said actuating bar whereby the jogger blades are simultaneously actuated.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating jogger blade provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said ogger blade, an actuating bar provided with a rack, a shaft provlded with pinions meshing with said jogger blade and said actuating barracks, an end jogger blade mounted to reciprocate t ansverselyof said first mentioned blade, and an oscillating member pivotally mounted on said frame and. having a link connection with said actuating bar and a pitman con nection with said end jogger blade whereby the jogger blades are simultaneously actuated.
17. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a frame, a reciprocating jogger provided with a rack, an actuating spring for said blade, an actuating bar provided with a rack, and a shaft provided with pinions meshing with said jogger blade and said actuating bar racks.

In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame provided with a forwardly projecting sheet supporting plate, a jogger blade mounted to reciprocate at the front of the frame over the said sheet supporting plate thereof and recessed to receive the same, and an actuating member having operating connections with said jogger blade and adapted to be engaged by said actuating member of said sheet delivery means.

In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame adapted to rest on said table and provided with means for retaining it in its adjusted position thereon, a jogger blade mounted to reciprocate on said frame, an actuating spring for said blade, and an actuating member operatively connected to said blade and adapted to be engaged by said actuating member of said sheet delivery means.

In a structure of the class described, including a sheet table and a sheet delivery means having a jogger actuating member actuated therewith, the combination of a frame adapted to rest on said table, a j ogger blade mounted to reciprocate on said frame, an actuating spring for said blade, and an actuating member operatively connected to said blade and adapted to be engaged by said actuating member of said sheet delivery means.
