Application filed September 15, 3,916. erial No, lfw,
To all wwm 'it may emmer-n:
Be it known that l, Ricirmn G. Hansis, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knoxville, in the county of lnoX and State of Tennessee, have invented new and nseful Improvements in Safety-Headlights, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in headlights i'or use on locomotives, and on street cnrs.
In carryin` out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a headlight which will he constructed in such manner that the illumination therefrom may he projected laterally as Well as forwardly ,i as to illinninate the roadway at the sides of the Vehicle as well as straight ahead, 'thereby enabling the operator to distinguish objects along ihe sides oi the road and around curves.
is also my purpose to provide a head light which will embody 'the desired features of simplicity, eiiiciency, and durability, and which will embrace conipnratifely ien parts, and he so arranged and correlated as to reduce the possibility oi. derangenient to ay minimum.
lilith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction,
combination, and arrangement of parte hereinafter set forth and Yfalling within-the scope of the claims. y
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a horizontal section View through a headlight constructed in aecordx ance with the present invention..
Fig. 2 is a iront elevation oi light.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, l designates a casing' embodying hottoin Wall 2, a top Wall 3, and back and side walls i and 5, respectively, uprising from the bottorn Wall and connected to top wall.
The front Wall of the easing is indicated at 6, and this Wall is 7nent 'to iorrn the centrai front section.- 2' 'sind side sec-tions 8, arranged, atan angle to the 'front section 7,
7, formed with an onenthe -hending,..enifhinged tooneezlgeweil of the v `that 'i do not limit or conf opening is acover plate 9 carrying 'bnllls-eyes' l0, while. mounted within me. casing in line with the respective hnils- 'yes are rusto-eonical tubes il having; their ner ends arranged in adjusted position 'to one another, While arranged behind the inner ends of the tubes 1l and alining therewith, respectively, are concave-convex ii l2. Snitnhly secured to the bottoni the easing; and arranged between the e tors and the projector tube il is a which may he electrically energized or the Se oil burning type. i rlhe rear -mill 4 oi the casing is il with an opening, 'and dosing siieii on ning is e door Wheneby access may he riad to the interior oi' the easing. e5 From the foregoing description, taken in connection with vthe aeeonipanyin it will he seen that ,l here light whereinT the light ni burner or in ,ip may be prouieeieel forwardly 7e and leterallf,Y irc n lie easing, thereby illnniinatirg the sides of re l well that portion of the road string "While l hei in "iewn and desp the preferred iorln oi' my l in ish it he and inf/Seli to precise details ci construction herein scribed and delineated, modification variation may he made within the seep' the claims and Without departing from spirit ,of the inrention.
