rlhis invention relates to electrical con necting members, the primary object of the invention 'being to provide an article of this character by which access can be readily and easily had to a connector Without separating or disassociatin the parts when in assembled Jepinpanying and forming part of the present specification. In this particular forni of the invention the device presents a plug such as is insertible into and removable from a socket.

An electrical connecting member invclving my invention comprises an insulating portion or body and a. contact shell, one of which surrounds the other and a connector interposed between the two parts, one of them having lan opening to provide access 'to the connector. ln the present case said insulating portion or body constitutes the core of a plug, the contact'shell ysur'rolinding the core and the shell having a lateral'opening by which theA connecting portion of the connector. may be reached to connect a Wire to or disconnect it 'from said connector which preferably is electrically connected with the shell. 4Said connector may be mechanically connected with the shell, Vthus sin'iplifying the construction. The numeral 2 denotes a core, constituting a suitable body, and made of some insulating material such as porcelain. The core 2 issurrounded between its ends by the metal contact shell 3 Which is externally threaded for practically its entire length to fit the threads o .a socket. (Not show-n.) Sur rounding the contact shell 3 is the ring 4- of suitable insulating material and which is provided with an inset portion 5 snugly tting an annular external groove in the.upperv end of the Contact shell 3. The ring l and shell 3 are, therefore, mechanically con;- nected; they have, however, no positive connection With the core 2. The latter, however, is furnished with' a circular circumferential bead 6 to act as a suitable bearing normally for the ring and the shell.' The lower portion of the core 2 is shown enlarged at 7, said enlarged portion having'a" cone surface 8 uti- `provided with an inturned conical portion l2 cooperative with the cone surface 8. ldhen the core 2 bottomsin a socket, its movement will be arrested, although beyond this point the shell 3 and ring t can advance independently of the core. @n this relative movement the cone poi-.tion or inturned lip l2 will ride against the cone surface 8, thereby,4 expanding the shell 3 to obtain a substantial contact 'with the threaded or equivalentA portion of the shellof a socket. l
