CECIL 3. WILSON, or BABLIN, ARI-EST VIRGINIA.
TABLE ATTACHMENT FOR Bans.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 27,1917.
Application filed June 23, 1915. Serial No. 35,868.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CECIL R. 'WILsoN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Bablin, in the county of Lewis and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Table Attachments for Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to table attachments for beds and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the character indicated which is of simple and durable structure and which may be easily and quickly applied to a bed frame to be used by an invalid or other person occupying the bed. The device is susceptible of numerous adjustments whereby the table top may be brought into a desired position for the convenience of the user, and when the attachment is not desired it may be easily and quickly removed from the bed and folded in small compass for storage or transportation.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the attachment.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same;
- Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a receptacle which may be applied to the table.
. 4. The receptacles Fig. 5 is a perspective View of a clip for holding the top of the table upon its support.
The table comprises a top 1 which may be of wood or any other suitable material and the said top may be of any desired configuration in plan. A tray 2 is provided at one edge of the top 1 and may be used for receiving trinkets, medicine bottles, ink bottles, etc. Receptacles 3 are provided at the under side of the top 1 and the said receptacles are preferably formed from sheet metal having longitudinally disposed slots e. adapted to su port envelops, cards the like, and when it is desired to re n n envelop, pad or sheet of paper from lie same, a finger is inserted through the slot 4 and one or more articles may be withdrawn from the receptacle. A bracket 5 forms a part of the table attachment and the said bracket is provided with angularly disposed end portions. A ring 6 is mounted upon one end of the bracket .5 and clips 7 are mounted at the under side of the top 1 and have end portions which engage under the ring 6. The clips 7 prevent the top 1 from becoming detached from the ring 6, butthe top. 1 and the clips 7 are free to rotate around the ring 6.
The clips 7 are pivotallyconnect'ed' withthe top 1 and may be'turned on their pivots to disengage the ring 6 whereby the top may be removed from the ring. A clamp block 8 is provided with an opening which receives one end portion of the bracket 5 and a collar 9 is adjustably mounted upon the bracket and bears against the upper edge of the block 8. The collar 9 is held at an adjusted position upon the bracket by means of a set screw 10. The bracket 5 is free to turn in the block 8 and may be readily lifted out of the same. The block 8 is provided with a laterally disposed lug 11 whichis adapted to fit under the side rail 12 of the bed frame. A block 13 is adapted to bear against the upper portion of the rail 12 at the inner side thereof and bolts 14 pass transversely through the blocks 8 and 13 above the upper edge of the side rail 12. One bolt 14 is located at each side of the bracket 5. Wing nuts 15 are screw threaded upon. the inner ends of the bolts 14 and when tightened they draw the blocks 8 and 13 in close contact with the opposite sides of the rail 12.
When it is desired to apply the attachment to a bed frame, the blocks 8 and 13 are secured in position at any desired point along the side rail 12 and then the bracket 5 isv slipped down into the block 8. By adjusting the collar 9 along the lower end portion of the bracket 5 the upper end of the may be used for writing and other purposes.
Inasmuch as the top may turn with relation to the bracket and the ring supported thereby the top may be brought to a position desired by the occupant of the bed.
From the above description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it will be seen thata table attachment of simple and durable structure is provided and that the attachment is susceptible of numerous adjustments in order to position the top thereof for the convenience of one occupying the bed to which the attachment is applied.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A. table attachment comprising a bracket, means for supporting the same, a continuous open center circular ring fixed to the bracket, a top located upon the bracket with its under surface in contact with the upper surface of the ring, and clips pivotally attached to the top at spaced intervals and having end portions which engage under the inner edge portion or" the ring, whereby the top may describe a complete rotation on the ring but is held against lateral displacement therefrom.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
