WATER-COOLER.
Specification of Letters Patent:

Application led February 20, 1915. Serial No. 9,641.
To aZZ whom z't may concern. j
Be it known that I, HENRY W. l/VEAVER a citizen of the United States, residing at Belleview, in the county of Marion vand State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Water- Coolers, of...
which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to Water coolers, and its object .is to provide a water cooler in which a larger quantity of water for drinking purposes may be quickly cooled and kept cool for a longer period of time With a smaller quantity of ice than is re-` quired for this purpose at the present time with Water coolers noW in use.
A fur-ther object of the invention'is to provide a Water cooler in which the water While being drawn into and out of a cooling chamber will be suiiiciently retarded in its passage to enable it to be subjected to a cooling medium for a longer time than is possible with the average cooler in use at the present time.
The invention consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim. a
The preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but no restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of construction therein shown, as changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claim niay be resorted t'o when desired.
In the draWing,-
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse sectional view through a water cooler constructed in accordance With the invention.
Fig. 2'is a section on the line 2--2 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 8--3 of Fig. 1. i
Fig. 4 is a modification of a portion of the invention for supporting the ice Within the ice compartment.
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views. j
The letter A designates a water cooling apparatus comprising a Water reservoir 1 disposed above and supported upon an ice compartment 2, said compartment resting upon the usual stand or support 3 provided with a drip bas-in and drain pipe 4: and waste Water receptacle 5. The ieecompartment 2 is of rectangular shape having a rounded front portion 6 anda removable top wall 7, said Wall being provided lwith an opening' 8 and a hinged cover 9, so that ice may be readily deposited Within said compartment 2. Provided within said compartment is a removable lining 10, the floor portion 11 of Awhich is formed by the slanting surfaces 12 and 13 and a sediment collecting' well 14: medially disposed'between the front and rear walls of the compartment ToA permit the water reservoir 1 to be supported upon the Aice compartment 2 in a firm and substantial manner, the said compartment is further provided upon its top wall 7 with a coneshaped casing 15 havinga packing ring or gasket 16 interposed between said casing and reservoir l, thereby preventing leakage or' water from the casing 15 or the admission of'air into an L-shaped water supply pipe 17. The said water supply pipe 17 connects the bottom of the casing 15 with the front face '18 of a rectangular Water cooling and ice supporting compartment 19 disposed wholly Within and resting upon the floor of the ice compartment 2 adjacent to the rear wall thereof. Extending between and connected with the front wall 18 of the conipartment 19 and a faucet 2O on the front wall 6 of the compartment 2 is a coil 21 having a coupling 21, said coil acting as a means through which cold water may be drawn from the compartment- 19 for drinking purposes. l
In order that a large volume of Water may be retarded in its passage through the coil 21 and subjected to the cooling action of the Water from the .melting ice, said coil is disposed adjacent to and in a plane parallel to the fioor portions 11 of the compartment 2.
Secured to and passing through the lining 10 to effectually drain the ice compartment 2 of water from themelted ice in excess of a sufiieient amountvto cover the coil 2l and to prevent the admission of air-into said compartment is a drain pipe 22 adjustably mounted within the lining 10 of the ice compartment, said drain pipe 22 .having curved portions 23-and 23 partially disposed Withinthe sedimentcollecting well 14.
From the foregoing description taken in lin Vthe pipe 17 and coil 21 may be subjected to 4the cooling influences of the ice compartment 2, before and after leaving the cooling or refrigeratmg compartment 19.
It will be further noted that by the pro-f vision of the slanting surfaces of the floor 11 and the use of the drain pipe 22 having a double curved portion, sediment from the melted ice Will be collected Within the Well 14 and Water unnecessary for refrigerating` or cooling purposes drained from the compartment 2 in an efficient manner.
If it should be found desirable to have the ice within the ice compartment disposed in closer relation to the ioor of the ice compartment, to permit contact with the Water Within said compartment, than' Would be practical with' the usev of the compartment 19, said compartment 19 may be removed and the coil 24 shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing connected with the coil 214of the pipe 17 and the drain pipe 22 vertically adjusted Within the floor of the ice compartment, to

nemers 'voir is secured, a substantially oblong Water cooling compartment extending trans-y versely of one end of said ice compartment, a vertical pipe depending below said reservoir. and extending in the direction of one side of said ice compartiment and having a terminal portion connected to. one end of said Water cooling compartment and a second pipe connected to the opposite end of said Water cooling compartment andhaving an intermediate coil liaving its outer end passing immediately out of said ice compartment, and a faucet secured to tlie projecting end of said lastnamed pipe. l
