Be it known that JAMES D. LOWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort iVorth; in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful `Tmprovements in Electric-Bath Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. Y
My invention relates to an improved electrical apparatus or appliance designed as a means whereby an electric bath may be takenv with facility and ease and under varying degrees of current intensity.
An object of the invention is to improve in the construction of the shields or electrodes utilized in the attainment of an electric bath.
A further object of the invention is to so equip or construct the apparatus that the contained water of a bath tub may be charged and the body of the bather electrified to a determined degree without modifying or in any Way altering. the construction of the tub.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, described in the, following specification and then more particularly pointed out in the claims which are appended hereto and form a part of this application.
1n describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the hand electrede;

Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the application of the invention.
Referring now to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a bath tub of ordinary construction, which in the application of the present invention is adapted to contain a body of water (not shown).
The present invention is designed for use in connection with the usual electrical apparatus for producing high tension current and which comprises an induction coil 2 and a rheostat 3, the latter being within the primary circuit, designated 4:. The batteries tially filled with water 5 are arranged within said circuit 4t that a source of current supply may be obtained.
A secondary or auxiliary circuit 6 is.
branched from the induction coil 2. Electrodes or shields designated respectively 7 and 8 are arranged within this auxiliary circuit and connected to the terminals of the conductors leading from the coil.
Electrode 7 will be hereinafter referred to as a hand electrode and electrode 8 as a iixed electrode. Hand electrode 7 is vin its construction a duplicate of the electrode 8 except that a handle 9 is provided that the electrode maybe grasped by the bather and moved as desired.
Each electrode may be said to consist of spaced insulating plates 10 between which plate devices 11 (preferably of sheet metal) are arranged. The devices 11 may be perforated as indicated at 12 to provide a retaining means designated 13 which is adapted for engagement with the inner wall of the mentioned insulating plates. The retaining means, as suggested, is formed by punching the metal plates or contact devices in the manner shown to advantage in Fig. 3. Spacing elements 14 may be interposed between the insulating plates to serve as a means whereby said plates are held in the desired spaced relation.
One of the insulating plates of each electrode is provided with a plurality of openings 15 so that water, when the electrodes are immersed, may contact with the devices 11. l
In use, the bath tub 1 is filled or parand the electrodes 7 and 8 immersed, the electrode 7 being disposed preferably at the foot of the tub and the electrode 8 at the opposite end. Water being a conductor of electricity it isapparent that the body of the bather may be electrically charged the moment the electrical current is turned on. A rheostat 3 is provided that the intensity of the current may be varied.
Should the bather desire that the electrical current be directed to any particular part of the body, it is but necessary that the hand electrode 7 be grasped and vpressed against the body at or near'said part below the surface of the water contained in the tub.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is evident that an electric bath may be obtained with facility and ease; that a strong` or weak electrical current may be directed to the body of the bather, the intensity of the current being variable to suit the demands made thereon; and that the actual device is of such size and compact-ness as to be contained in a minimum of space during transportation.
The benefits resulting from an electric bath are well known and need'not here be explained.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. ln an electric bath appliance, an electrode comprising spaced perforated insulating plates of a construction affording when assembled a handle, insulating strips provided between the plates at the edges thereof and forming a connection between the plates, a plate interposed between the insulating plates and a conductor extending from said interposed plate through the handle for connection to a source of current.
2. In an electric bath appliance, an electrode comprising flat spaced connected insulating cover plates having exposure openings formed therein, a relatively flat plate interposed between said cover plates, burs struck outtltrom said interposed plate to engage said coverplate, each cover plate being extended at one end, said eXatension jointly forming-a handle for the electrode, and a source of current supply for said interposed plate.
