IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR-BOLTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 121,681, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, RoswnLL H. ST. J oHN, of Bellefontaine, in the county of Logan and State of Ohio, have invented an Improved Flour-Bolt Knocker, of which the followingis a specifica tion:
One or more pivoted hammers and strikingsurfaees therefor are applied to the ribs of the reel and coupled by crank-arms to longitudinal pull-rods of flat bar-iron, furnished with retracting springs, and connected by bell-cranks and links to levers pivoted to the reel-shaft, and furnished at their outer ends with friction-rollers to engage the tripper. This is pivoted so as to oscillate freely, and so controlled by stops, one of which is adjustable, as to impart through the hammers blows of variable force, whether the reel revolves forward or backward. My invention consists in the construction of the said tripper; in the employment of levers, bell-cranks, and connecting-links to operate the hammers through pulls-rods; and in the said combina-tion of parts.

The bell-cranks q, tripping-cam O and adjustable stop m are pivoted by attaching screws, and the other joints formed by riveted pintlcs; but these and other details are not essential. The striking devices may be applied to two or more ribs, or to but one, and more than one hammer to a rib may be employed.
The operation of the device will be fully apparent from the above.
What I claim as new in this my invention isl. The pivoted tripper C constructed with camfaces o and n, in combination with the stops m l, the former adjustable and of the form specilied, for the purpose set forth.
2. The levers s, bell-cranks q, and links r, in combination with the springs a, for operatin g the hammers y through pull-rods w, all constructed and arranged substantially as described.
