GEORGE HENRY WHEARY, 0F RACINE, WISCONSIN.
GARMENT-HANGER FIXTURE.
Application filed October 24, 19111.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, Gnonon HENRY XVI-maur, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment- Hanger Fixtures, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment hanger fixtures.
lt is of material benefit to the traveling public to be able to transfer garments from their trunks to the closets in the hotels or other stopping places and it is also of advantage if the trunk hangers with the garments draped thereon can be taken from the trunk and supported in the closets as considerable time is saved and the user is provided with the desired number of hangers.
Modern wardrobe trunks of the better class are provided with garment hangers which are slidably supported at their opposite ends upon tracks removably mounted within the wardrobe section of the trunk. Garment hangers of this type are not adapted to be supported from the ordinary clothes hooks usually found in the closets of hotels and other places so that other hangers have to be provided or the garments be hung on the ordinary hook.
It is one of the objects of the present in,- vention to provide a garment hanger fixture to which the modern removable garment hanger tracks and hangers may be supported therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger fixture having,
portions which may be permanently fastened to a support, and which portions are adapted to support garments in the ordinary manner and t0 also hold garment hanger tracks transferred from trunks.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hangervfixture in which the removable portion of the fixture is locked to the permanently attached portions by the removable garment hanger tracks.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger fixture which is adapted to support garment hanger tracks of the extensible type.
A further object of the invention is to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20, 1917.
Serial No. 868,409.
provide a garment hanger fixture which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
VVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved garment hanger fixture and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
ln the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Figure 1 is a top view of the improved garment hanger fixture and removable tracks connected thereto shown attached to a support; parts of the tracks being broken away to show other parts therebeneath and one of the tracks being in a position to be removed from the fixture;
Fig. 2 is a. transverse sectional view thereof on a larger scale taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the fixture taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the fixture taken on line 4 4 ofFig. 1.
Referring to thev drawing the numeral 8 indicates a support and 9 the improved gar ment hanger fixture mounted thereon. The fixture comprises bracket members 10 and track holding members 11 which are removably attached to the said brackets and to which the tracks 12 are removably connected. Each -bracket member 10 is stamped from heavy sheet or plate metal and consists of a. body portion 13 having a depending loop portion 14, an upper hook portion 15 and side ear portions 16. The ear portions 16 are perforated to receive screws 17 for attaching the member permanently to a support, and the upper portion 15 is bent to form a clothes hook 18 adapted to support garmentsin the ordinary manner. The depending portion 14 is bent upwardly and over upon the body to form an elongated eyed or slotted part 19 extendingtransversely of the member and parallel to the face thereof. Rivets 20 serve to securely bind the upper part of the eyed portion to the body portion of. the member to form a rigid structure.
Each track holding member 11 consists of an elongated piece of flat metal having its inner end portion bent at right angles to inner side of the side portion 22 of they holding member adjacent to the attaching portion 21. The projecting bracing portion 24 of the reinforcing member 1s spaced y. construction permits from the attaching portion of the holding member a sufficient distance to permit the outer part 19 of the eyed portion of the bracket to just pass between the said brace portion 24 and the attaching portion 21 and form a close engagement therewith and thus firmly bracingthe said holding member.
While only one of the fixtures is described in detail it is to be understood that they are ordinarily adapted for use in pairs in which a right and left form is used in spaced relation to support the tracks. lt is also to be understood that one of the fixtures may be used for holding a number of clothes hangers of ordinary type.
The trunk tracks 12 adapted for use in connection with these fixtures are formed of metal rods having annular recesses 25 extending around their inner ends and the recessed portions of said tracks on their lower sides are slabbed as indicated by the numeral 26 to permit the said recessed portions to enter the locking recesses 27 formed in the attaching portions 21 of the track holding members 11.
The lower portion l2'?" of each locking recess 27 is of circular form corresponding in diameter to the diameter of the recessed portions of the tracks, while the upper or entrance portion 28 of each recess is of less width than the lower portion and corresponds in width to the transverse thickness of the slabbed portions of the tracks. This Y the recessed and slabbed portions of the tracks to enter the recesses and by giving a quarter turn to the tracks to turn the slabbed portions of the tracks out of register with the entrance recesses, the tracks at their inner ends will be securely locked to the attaching portions of the track holding members.
The outer side end portions of the tracks are provided with curved laterally-extending plates 29 having hook like end portions 30 which hook over the upper edge portions 31 of the side portions 22. These curved plates project outwardly from the tracks in planes at right angles with relation to the planes of the faces of the slabbed portions of the tracks so that when the hooked portions of the plates are revolved to engage the upper edges of the side portions the rear end por-` tions of the tracks will be locked to the attaching portions of the track holders.
Each curved plate has mounted thereon a. spring actuated bolt 32 which projects outwardly therefrom and extends into the lock ing openings 33 of the side portions of the track holders'to lock the plates in holder engaging position. The plates are unlocked from the bands by pressing inwardly on the projecting ends 32 of the spring portions of the bolts.
lThe outer end portions of the tracks are provided with hinged extensible tracks 34 which are adapted to swing horizontally outwardly and into longitudinal alinement with the fixed tracks to which they are respectively connected to permit garment hangers 35 mounted on the fixed tracks to be slid outwardly and upon the extensible tracks so that garments carried by the hangers may be easily removed or replaced. The outer end portions of the extensible tracks are arranged to overlap and interlock with each other when in closed position.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the track holder portions may be carried in a trunk and when the destination Y is reached the holder portions may be mount ed in a closet provided with the bracket portions and the tracks and the garment hangers from the trunk may be supported on the fixtures in the same manner as supported in the trunk thus permitting the use of the same tracks and hangers outside of the trunk.
It will also be seen that the brackets may also be used as ordinary clothes hooks and also that single tracks may be used to-sup port garment hangers of the ordinary type.
