Be it known that I, SIMON LAZARUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Botties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a non-refillable bottle.
The object of the invention is to provide a bottle which when once emptied cannot be practicably refilled.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the device, Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view, Fig. 8 is an inverted vertical sectional view, Fig. 4% is a plan view of the valve mechanism employed, Fig. 5 is a side elevation thereof, partially in section and Fig.6 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 refers to a bottle of conventional form having the reduced neck 2. Fitted within this neck is a thimble 3 which is secured in position by means of peripheral teeth at which project into corresponding recesses 5 in said neck. The lower end of this thimble is reduced and surrounded by a close fitting bushing 6 formed of cork or other similar material which is interposed between the thimble and the neck2preventing the escape of fluid around said thimble. The extreme lower end of the thimble is contracted at 7 forming a tapering seat in which fits a correspondingly shaped valve 8, which when seated closes the lower end of the thimble. TV hen the valve 8 is seated this disk contacts against the tapering sides of the seat 7, and the disk may be adjusted up or down on the rod 9 as may be necessary to permit the complete seating of the valve. The upper end of the rod 11 is threaded into the lower end of the tapped hole in the valve 8, and the lower end of this rod has the cross arm 12. The bottle is first filled and the thimble 3, with the valve mechanism described, is inserted and secured in the neck thereof and the thimble is closed by means of the ordinary cork 13. When it is desired to empty the bottle cork 13 is removed and the bottle inverted as shown in Fig. 3. The weight of the valve assisted bythe pressure of the fluid against the disk 10 will unseat the valve and permit the fluid to pass out through the thimble 8. The cross arm 12 engaging against the end of the thimble will operate to hold the valve in the position within the thimble as shown in Fig. 3. hen the bottle is again turned upright the valve will drop into its original position and seat in and close the contracted end of the thimble and prevent refilling of the bottle.
What I claim is The combination with a bottle having a reduced neck, of a thimble seated in said neck whose lower end is contracted, forming a seat, a valve shaped to seat within the contracted end of said thimble, a rod screwed into said valve and upstanding therefrom, an open disk threaded upon the free end of said rod and holding the valve centered relative to the seat, a rod threaded into and depending from said seat and a cross arm carried by the lower end of said last mentioned rod.
