Description

ANDROSS RUGERS Improvement-in Land Rollers. N0. 121,424 V Patents-d Nov.28,1871'.
' aware i0? UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
ANDROSS ROGERS, OF FREEPORT, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN FIELD-ROLLERS.
' will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan view of my machine.
A A represent the frames, in which the hind rollers B B are placed. These frames are each in the shape of a rectangular box, the ends of which pass a suitable distance down below the bottom, and in the lower ends of said end pieces are the journals of the rollers inserted, thus making the box or frame directly above the roller. At the inner end of each of the framesAis placed a bar, 0, which runs forward at right angles with the frame, and another bar, 0, runs from near the front end of said bar 0 to the outer end of the frame, thus bracing the same perfectly. From the front end of each bar 0 a screw-rod or shaft, a, passes through the front bolster D, and is passed through a nut, b, which is laid into a recess or notch formed in the front side of the bolster for that purpose. By this means the hind rollers are allowed to adjust themselves to the ground. In the bolster D are also other holes, in which the rods a a may be inserted, Whereby the hind rollers may be brought closer together when passing throughbars or narrow gateways. The frame of the front roller E consists of a bar, G, with standards G G on the under side, in which the journals of the rollers have their bearings. On the outside of the frame G G are cars I I, in which the tongue H is pivoted. These ears may be adjustable so as to cause the frame to draw straight when in use. On the front side of the bolster D at each end is pivoted a button, J, and the upper ends of said buttons are connected by a bar, K. This bar is in the center pivoted to a lever, L, the lower end of which is pivoted to the front side of the bolster D. By means of the lever L the lower ends of the buttons J J are thrown in front of the front frame G G, thereby preventing the hind rollers from swinging round on side hills. The drivers seat M is supported by bars N N from the bolster D. The rear frames A A are connected together by'a pivoted bar, 0, so as to keep the hind rollers at proper distance apart when in use. The front frame G G is pivoted to the bolster D by a center or king-bolt, d.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The buttons J J, bar K, lever L, in combination with bolster D, front frame G G, substantially as shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
Witnesses: ANDROSS ROGERS.
