Be it known that I, JULIUs F. G. SELL, citizen of the United States, residing at J erin'the county of Jersey and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Sole-Stamping Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a means for numbering the soles of shoes, and the principal object of the same is to provide a device that will efiiciently number a pair of outer soles when the same are being rounded, so as to save the time spent in a separate operation of stamping the numbers thereon, and also to insure the placing of the numeral to designate the correct size of the soles in a uniform position.

Another object of this invention is the production of a sole numbering device that is attached to the sole pattern for rounding the same and can be easily taken therefrom when the pattern becomes worn out.

A still further object of thisinvention is to provide a device of the kind above described that is simple in construction, cilicient in operation and consists of the minimum number of arts.

With these an other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features, constructions and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Referring to the parts by reference numerals,the rounded pattern for the cutting of the soles is designated by the numeral 10, and has formed therein an aperture 11 provided with enlarged pockets 12 at either end thereof. This opening 11 is shown in the drawings formed adjacent one end of the pattern, but it is not necessary to place the opening as shown in the drawings, inasmuch as the function of the numbering device can be accomplished equally as well at a different position from that as shown.

The numbering device prop'er that is positioned in the opening 11 consists essentially of two parts, a primary member 13 and an auxiliary member 14, said primary member consisting of a disk 15 having formed integrally therewith and extending centrally therefrom an internally threaded sleeve 16. The auxiliary member of the numbering device consists of a disk 17, and has extending centrally therefrom an externally threaded shank 18, said threaded shank adapted to be threaded into the sleeve 16 of the primary member. Formed on the disks 15 and 17 on the opposite faces from that of the sleeve 16 and the shank 18, are outwardly extending projections 19 on which are formed the desired number and as shown in the accompanying drawings the figure 5.

It. can be readily understood that when it is wished to assemble the device as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the primary member is positioned in engagement with the pattern, thus placing the sleeve 16 in the opening 11 and the disk 15 in one of the enlarged pockets at the end of the opening 11. The auxiliary member is then attached to the primary member by having the threaded shank 18 threaded into the sleeve 16 until the disk 17 is snugly positioned in one of the enlarged pockets 12.

As clearly shown in the accompanying" drawings, when the device is positioned as before described, a number is provided on either face of the pattern 10, and said numbers project beyond the faces of the pattern 10 so as to be impressed in the inner and outer soles as the same are brought in contact with the pattern when being rounded.

From the foregoing description taken together with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that a numbering device for the soles of shoes has been provided that will number a pair of soles at the same time that the rounding of the same is being accomplished. By providing positive means for numbering the two outer soles at the same time, there is absolutely no chance for the soles of different sizes being placed together.

It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention, and it is therefore not wished to confine this device to the structure herein shown, but to include all such as properly come within the scope of the appended claims.
