This invention relates to improvements in folding tables, one object of the invention being the provision of a table of this type, in which the top is composed of a plurality of hingedly connected leaves, and is provided.

with a pivotally mounted brace at each end, whereby the leaves may be permitted to fold when the braces'are parallel to the longitudinal extent of the leaves, or they will be held flat when'the braces are at'right angles to ,the longitudinal extent of the said leaves.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel arrangement of mounting the foldable legs that will not interfere with the swinging of the braces, and which .provides legs that whenfolded will fit vin parallel relationand flush with the underside of the leaves carrying the two pair of legs.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a folding table, which is simple in construction, durable, readily andeasily folded and unfolded, strong, and inexpensive in manufacture, as well as thoroughly eflicient and practical in use.

' With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the acompanying drawings, and

pointedout in the claims hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a fragmentary perspective view taken from below at one end of the table con structed in accordance with the invention. Fig.2, is a similar view looking from below toward the opposite end of the table. Fig. 3, is a bottom plan view with the legs extended,

vReferring to-the drawings in detail, the table comprises. a top 10, which as here shown is composed of thetwo outer leaves 2 with the legs and braces thereof.

Swingingly connected at one end to the under side of each leaf 11, and 12, is a brace 17, there being two of these braces, which are adapted to engage in locking members 19, mounted on the leaves 11, and 12, when said braces are moved transversely of the leaves ,for holding the latter against folding movement. 'The brace 0n the leaf 11, cooperates with the locking member on the leaf 12, while the brace on the leaf I2, cooperates with the lockin member on the leaf 11,

so that the braces 1 will be in parallel relation to each other, when lying transversely of the leaves or atright angles to the longitudinal extent thereof. The locking members 19, are constructed in the form of pivoted'hooks, so that they may be swung to release the braces 17, when desired.

The braces 17, are formed with notches 18, in their faces next to the leaves of the top to avoid any interference bythe fastenings for the legsof the table, hereinafterde' scribed.

' Connected by' means of hinges 20, two to each ,of the respective leaves 11, and 12, are swinging legs 21, each of which is provided with elongated. grooves 22, and 23,1ongitudinally disposed therein, while swingingly connected by means of the fastenings 24, and 25, respectively to thelegs at the upper ends of the respective slots 22, and 23, are the metal braces 26, and 27, respectively. The'braces 26, when'folded upon the legs will fit within the slots 22, which form seats therefonwhile their free ends when the legs are extended will fit in the fastenings"28, and thus cause the braces to hold the legs perpendicular for supporting the and thereby retain the top firmly in position for use on the setting up of the table. The grooves 31 are provided in each leg so that the staples 28 may fit therein when the legs are collapsed.

It will be noted that thebrace carried by the leaf 11, is pivoted nearer the outer edge of the leaf than that one carried by the leaf 12, the onecarried by the leaf 12, being mounted between the legs 21, carried by such leaf 12. This is done so that leaves, braces and legs may assume the position as shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6, of the drawings, and thus will easily permit the folding of the leaves of the top, as illustrated in Figs. 5,

' and 6, of said drawings. It will also be noted that the legs must be dropped to supporting position before the braces 17 can be moved to support the leaves, and that the braces 17 are sufficiently near and thick 4 enough to prevent the legs collapsing before the wire braces are hooked. It will also be nred that when the legs are folded upon ing pivoted nearer the'outer edge than the other and both being mounted for, movement parallel to and at right angles to its carrybrace and all legs nearer the respective ends of the outer leaves than the braces, whereby the braces when extended limit the folding movement of the legs but permit the folding of the legs upon and parallel to the longitudinal edges of the carrying leaves when pair being within the pivotal point of'its the top is folded, and means for locking the legs extended.

A folding table, including a top composed of five leaves hingedly connected together, whereby when folded the middle leaf and one of' the outer leaves will be parallel and form the exterior members, while the other outer leaf will be in parallel -but incased, the other leaves being in parallel to each other and forming outer members at the opposite sides of the table to the middle and outer leaves, two braces, one

pivotally connected to each outer leaf for movement in parallel and at right angles thereto, each of said braces being sufficiently long to extend beneath both outer leaves when the top is extended, and four legs, two

legs being hingedly connected to each outer leaf beyond the braces, whereby the braces can be collapsed and extended when the legs are extended, but are prevented from extension when the legs are folded upon the carrying leaves.
