Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 5,1914. Serial No. 860,446.
To all'wkom it may concern Be it'known that I, Ronnnr L. CooNnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at At lanta, in-the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Im provements in Stationary Fire-Extinguisher Systems, of which the following is a specification. a This invention relates to improvements in stationary fire extinguisher systems, proposing a system of the pressure controlled type and its objects are to provide a system of simple structural character and Which shall be rapid, certain and reliable in its operation.

and includes a vertical latch 3 formed to engage an arm 1 carried by the acid bottle and slidably mounted in a gland 5 fitted in the wall of the tank 1. The system includes the usual distributing pipe 6 leading from the tank and beyond the tank connect-ed to the riser '7 which supplies the leaders or laterals 8, these having at suitable intervals the usual sprinkler heads or distributing valves 9.
According relatively small vessel or cup 10 is arranged at the upper end of the riser, communicating therewith and a-float 11 is arranged in this vessel, the float being supported by a body of non-freezing liquid 12 which fills the vessel 10, the riser 7 and the leaders or laterals 8. The float 11 controls the operation of the system and in the example shown is connected by a cord or wire 13, trained over suitably arranged sheaves 14, to the latch 3. When a sprinkler head or distributing valve is opened at the time of a fire, the non-freezing liquid in the piping of the system escapes and during its escape the float 11 descends in the cup 10, and, functioning as a weight, lifts the latch 3 from engagement with the acid bottle, which, as
usual, being mounted off-center discharges its acid into the tank to mix with the alkaline solution therein. The developed high pressure causes the breakage of, the diaphragm 15 and the extinguishin solution flows past the now open diap ragm into the piping system, escaping through the open sprinkler head or distributing valve. The check valve 16 is arranged to prevent the extinguishing solution from flowing to the vessel of cup 10.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. A chemical mixing fire extinguisher system including a tank, an invertible acid bottle arranged therein, a movable controlling element for the acid bottle, a distributing pipe leading from the tank, a vertical pipe connected to and extending upwardly from said distributing pipe and having valved normally closed leaders or laterals, a vessel fitted upon the upper end of said vertical pipe, the vessel and the vertical pipe together with its leaders or laterals containing a non-freezing liquid, a float arranged Within the vessel, and a cord connecting the float, and the controlling element externally of the vertical pipe and operative to move the controlling element upon the descent of the float.
