Description

PATENT QEEICE.
CHARLES SCHILLDTG, OF AUBURN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LET-OFF MECHANISMS FOR LOOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,131, dated November 21, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SGHILLING, of Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Let-off Motion; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in letoff apparatus for looms; and it consists in a novel arrangement of devices for automatically shifting the Weights on the levers of the frictionstraps as the size of the roll of yarn decreases, all as hereinafter described.
Figure lis a rear elevation of a loom provided with my improved let-ofi' apparatus, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
A represents the levers; B, the weights thereon 5 and C, the friction-straps, that are caused to act on the friction-disks E of the warp-beam F. G is a cord connected to these weights, and pass'- ing over the pulleys H, one at each side of the loom-frame, and thence around the grooved pulley I, supported on the loom-frame in any suitable way. This cord is crossed between the weights and the pulleys H, so that when the cord is moved in one direction by the wheel I the weights will be moved from each other and toward the pivots ofthe levers A, and when moved the other way they will be moved toward each other. The Wheel I has a pinion, K, on it, gearing with a vertical toothed bar, L, suspended from one end of a lever, M, pivoted at O, and carrying a weight, P, at the other end. Said lever carries an arm, Q, at the end having the toothed bar L, which is held up against the under side of the yarn-roll by the weight P, and prevents the said weight from falling faster than the size of the yarn-roll diminishes, but allows it to fall to that extent; and as it so falls it raises the bar L, and causes it to turn the pulley I in the direction to move the Weights toward the pivots of the levers A, and thus lessen the friction in the proportion that the yarn-roll diminishes. When a new roll is put in the arm Q is pushed down and the weights moved outward to increase the friction.
This arrangement is very simple and effective, as clearly shown by the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The levers A, Weights B, crossed cords G, pulleys H I, friction-straps C, pinions K, toothed bar L, lever M having arm Q and Weight P, all arranged and operating in the manner described, thus preventing the levers from bounding and the band that leads from lever to yarn-reel from slipping on its pulleys.
