JOLAN FR. PETING, OF ROCHESTER, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOSEPH VVEIDNER OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PREPARED GLUE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,996, dated November 14, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, J OLAN FR. PETING, of Rochester, in the county of Fulton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Manufacture of Glue; and I declare the following to be a full clear, and exact description thereof.
The object of my invention is to render the common commercial glue and other prepared glues more durable, and to prevent them from souring and otherwise deteriorating in quality and becoming offensive. To this end the invention consists in the preparation of the glue as hereinafter set forth.
I take one-fourth pound of common glue and one-half pint of well-water, put them together in a tin vessel and let them soak about half an hour. I then set the vessel on the stove and boil the mixture about ten minutes, when I add one-eighth ounce of unslaked lime and one-eighth ounce of pulverized soda, and let it boil about five minutes longer. During the process of boiling the liquid should be stirred continually to prevent it from burning and cause the ingredients to dissolve and mingle together more rapidly. It will be ready for use as soon as it has become cool, and is to be applied in the ordinary manner, care being taken not to leave the brush in it when not in use. The glue thus prepared will keep perfectly sweet for any length of time, and will not deteriorate in quality.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is' The prepared glue, substantially as herein described.
